First of all, I want to thank my brother, DCooper1, for finding this spot and letting me hunt it before he even had a chance to hunt it himself. Got away for the weekend and hit an old homesite dating back to the early 1800's. Every few sweeps with my White's DFX hit a signal. You could tell it had never been hit before. Actually there were so many signals, I had to pick my targets that I wanted to dig since my time was limited. This morning I was there for about an hour and the first thing I dug was the large cent. I wasn't sure what I had until I got back to the cabin and was able to clean it up. Can someone please help identify the engraving in the center of the coin? I've never seen anything like this before, but could it be a makers mark? If so, who is it and what is the purpose? Any information would be much appreciated.
Just before I had to leave, I dug the 1923 coin, It was everything I could do to get in my truck and leave but I hope soon my brother and I can spend a full day at this sight! Hope you enjoy the pictures.

I don't think would be considered a LOVE TOKEN. A love token is a coin that's been ornately engraved. This piece looks like it has a counter strike or has been counter stamped. These coins are very collectable too! NICE FIND!!!

Love tokens wer popular in the latter part of the 19th century, however based on the fact that it has initials in the shape of a heart, I would still have to guess that this is a love token.

Love that silver!!! Definatly an item on my wish list there :)
And cant forget about the LC, absolutely beautiful :)

Great finds. I have never seen a coin like it before. Thanks for sharing.

Great find's T.....1802 is awesome,I guess you can call it both.Sweet

Great finds. Love the Peace dollar.

Great Find!! :D

I would venture towards love token myself....I've found a few counter-stamped LC's, but none with a heart. Mainly a flower design or letters.

Keep up the great work! :)

fantastic finds. what a great hunt. congrats

WOW,
That sure was nice of your brother to let you hunt this site before he even touched it. ;D ;D I'm sure he knew there would be tons of stuff there!!!! Are you going to take him up on the deal, half of the finds?????
We need to take the camper(s) and visit that area for a few days, you never know what we'll get into
The Large Cent is awesome, especially with the engraving. You should get some advice on cleaning it a little more, there were multiple "flaws" on those coins that made them more scarce, you may be able to pick some of them out with a little more cleaning. I would use a little baking soda on the silver. Very little, very easy. It will clean up nicely.

Congrats again. Lets go back!!!!!!

I love the counterstamped largie. :o I'm still looking for my first.

Two items on my "yet to find" list - the large cent and the "silver" silver dollar. I found an Ike once before, but would really love to find a silver dollar.

Really terrific day you had!!!

Cool site and congrates on that love token and the dollar. HH

Nice counterstamped copper!

A little work with the property deeds and/or census records, and you might be able to figure out who the initials refer to. As much housesite hunting as we've done, we've never found anything with the initials or name of a long-gone property owner on it.

Cool find!
