Hello everyone I have been focusing on 2 ghost towns out here in Mo. and I havnt been posting at all...
One of the towns was first settled in 1793 and abandoned in 1889 the little platt map in the pic is the town in 1843 the entire town is on private property most of the cellars holes are left, we have found many items there too many to post here in one post everything has been draped bust - seateds my friend got his first capped bust dime on wendesday there... we have permission from the owner and will have to wait until the fall now to do anymore work there, but a few of my friends wanted me to post this find that was made there so here it is...
I had just gotten done detecting with my DFX for 3 hours I had an 1883 IH to show for that time my buddy was trying a new coil on his Fisher EDGE detector and I decided to take out the T-2... we decided to try to detect along a stone wall together as we were walking towards the wall we were swinging our coils I walked over a large root and with the T-2 I got a 22-90-34 reading no matter what angle I tried I still got the large VDI number in the middle, he was only 2 feet away from me and he used his fisher and said "yeah bud, thats a good signal". so I dug it up and out popped a large disk I picked it up and said "##### I think its a token, I dont recognize the eagle". I took some of the dirt off and said " wait, its says United stated of America on it". My buddy took it and turned it over and I saw 1806 I almost passed out!! boy did I let out a scream.
We had to go sit in the car and stare at it..lol lol I never thought in a million years I'd find an American coin that old but the T-2 sure sniffed that out between the trash.
Is it perfect No, but I'll never get rid of it... I'm happy with it I took it to a coin dealer for authentication because it had some strange knots on it... He said he thinks it may be fire damage and thats real because of a die break thats on the front of the coin on the left side near the stars.
Well happy hunting everyone!!!! jd

Just put everything together and get us some group snap shots! We're giong nuts here, gotta see more! All coins Draped Bust thru Seated!

Why do you have to wait until fall to go back?

With a coin like that, how deep was it?

You and your friends have definately hit the honey hole alright, two towns wide!
We gotta see more of this stuff...

Congratulations!

Chris

Sounds like the kinda site you just can't leave -- amazing find and not just the coin -- research does pay off

Great find JD! A lot of varietys on the strikes for that year. She's a beauty!
Hunting those ghosts sounds like a great adventure. Can't wait to see the rest of the digs. Have a good one. HH!

thanks everyone, as soon as we are done with the whole project I will post the whole thing.. if we have major finds like this one I can post a little about it... I was invited to this place and the person is not to keen on posting on forums and asked me not to, he let me do this one :), the underbrush has grown over 2 ft. in the last 6 days alone we will have to wait till the fall to do anymore work there. hh everyone

Excellent find and I know you cant say alot about the area ,but man oh man I wish I could hunt it with you guys! Way to Go and look forward to hearing the entire story when you are through!

incredible find jd! thats just awesome! congrats!

Ghost towns!!! What can you say....when all you have is farm fields or grass fields just being there will get the blood pumping and when coins like the one you found pop out of the ground there is now better feeling in metal detecting...!!! You felt just like I did when I found my 1805 Draped bust half dime! that to was found at an old settlement which is long gone!! It's an exciting find and glad you shared it with all of us! Good luck going back, you and your friends........Great Job! 8)

JD, I think you are hands down, the single best detectorist (is that a word?) around! You have once again shown your ability to kick my butt, & anybody elses butt as well! lol And you are always so classy & modest about it too! I think I need to move to your part of town, grab yer beltloop, follow & learn for about 6 months! I could live in yer garage............just bang on the roll up door when you are ready to go huntin! Hell, I'll dig ALL your holes for you in exchange for just a fraction of your knoweledge! lol Very very nice find JD! ;D
