After many months, I finally got back to my favorite site for about an hour today. I can't believe that after 5 years, I am still pulling coins out of this spot. The coppers are all toasty, but that is ok with me.

This one was a very questionable deep iron type of signal that occasionally settled in the penny range...good enough for me to dig . The V3i read 7.5 inches, but this one was at least 9 inches deep.

As best as I can tell it is an 1809, which is the same date as the only other one I dug at this site. It is too bad the obverse is so toasted because the back still has quite a bit of detail despite the massive corrosion.

I can't remember when I dug my last copper, but I remember that I was in shorts and a tee shirt!

PS Camera went out for repairs this morning. Sorry for the scans!

...thanks Kevin, I don't dig many of these. That is for sure!

Great recovery Neil. Still looking for one of those myself.

Great to see, especially this time of year!

Sure does look like Dead.

It may be toasty but a half cent is still a sweet find!! :headbang: They don't show up everyday and I'm still looking for one so...

You got a date and a decent reverse :D

Nicely done!!

All the best,

Lanny

Hey Neil, congrats! At least you're able to get a date off of it. I found two toasted coppers earlier this year that couldn't even be identified, so this isn't bad at all!

nice! i only duf 3 half cents.mine were all draped busts.a nice 1 hour hunt i'd say!

Hey Neal,

Nice dig, since Half Cents are scarcer than Large Cents. Last month I dug an 1806 Half Cent with the Artifact Dectecting Team out East. I've dug about 50 Colonial Coppers and Large Cents, but that Half Cent was only my second. Just don't see them that often.

These types of coins tend to peel. Any cleaning will remove whatever detail is left.
