Hi Everyone,

Even after last night's soaking rain, I decided to go out to the site I've been hunting for nearly 5 weeks.
This is the same site that produced a 1778 Spanish Half Reale and many other goodies.

I never thought I would top that half reale, but now I'm not so sure.

This rang in on my White's Eagle SL 90 as a strong 85 VDI. It hit and held at 85.
It was at a depth of 5 1/2 inches.

After popping the (muddy) plug, I could see the silver rim peaking out of that gray Indiana clay.

I just about died when I saw the date & detail.

This is, without a doubt, my sharpest old coin.

I'm still trembling.

Gonna have to pass on your offer to trade, Henry. But thanks anyway! ;D

Big Congrats for that sweet baby!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: Is that a die crack on the obverse? If so could be a rare variety!

This is the year of the bust silver on Tnet.. There have been so many sweet coins its hard to count them all. :headbang: :headbang:

I hope that's some kind of a rare die crack you have there. Congrats

WOW! great find!!!! :)

WOO HOO! Awesome dig!

Is that line on the head raised, or under the coin's surface?

It looks as if the line is under the coin's surface, however when looked at from the side I do see some "raised" sections of that line.

BTW, I'm such a newbie. I didn't realize FIFTY CENTS/HALF DOLLAR is printed on the side of the rim on these.

Die crack or not, I'm very pleased with this find. Any opinions on the grade/value?

Thanks Everyone!

I'm not sure if it's a rare variety - there are about 20-25 for this year. I can ask my buddies on the coin forums if you'd like. Or maybe tonight I'll break out my Overton book and poke around. Looking at ended auctions on eBay, a common 1826 with similar detail sold for $86. So, I'd say yours could fetch anywhere from $40-75. It's priceless though as you found it after it has been sitting in the ground undisturbed for all this time.

Description G F XF AU 60 62 63 64 65 66
1826 60 80 175 600 1200 1700 2650 4500 11000 18000

It's the best I could do for your value est I'm no pro at grading.....Great find though! :icon_thumleft:

Wow, that's an awesome find, congrats!

Awesome Bryon, I want to see the edges of this beauty. I heard you say it is printed around the rim? Amazing find for central Indiana. You have me ready to quit hunting and start reading for the rest of the summer. I need a honey hole like that one to cheer me up.
