I normally spend all of my time detecting in the woods near my home. However, after getting a pretty serious dose of poison ivy, I decided to give my body a break and hunt around a local park. I'm sure glad I did! The park has been in existence at least since the 1930's, and is located in an older part of town with homes dating back to the early 1800's. While searching along the perimeter of the park, I got a solid 86-87 on my AT-Pro at about 6 inches. I was thinking that it was a quarter, until I removed the plug, and saw the edge of something larger and silver at the bottom of the hole. I was in absolute shock when I pulled this 1832 Capped Bust 50 cent piece out of the ground. My oldest silver by far. I love this hobby!!!!

Awesome detail and condition on that!
Maybe the kids got into grandpa's coin collection, and lost it.

Great silver!

Incredible condition to boot. GREAT find... Trying to add those to a collection, even through eBay has been pricey for me!

Super coin. Definitely on my Bucket list! Have to give a banner nod to that one.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I'm still in shock ...can't believe that I was lucky enough to find it. You never know what you're going to find at the bottom of your next hole. HH.

I am okay with anything at the bottom of my hole except someone looking back at me! When I was about 10 years old, me and some friends found a collapsed Cave entrance on a big ridge near where I lived with mom, dad and my sisters at the time. We found a smaller hole that you could peek into the Cave and I swear that there was human skull there looking out. The bad thing, is we got of the ridge as fast as we could as we were all spooked and never told anyone about what we saw.

Wow, could any of us post one in nearly that fine of condition? Simply the best Bust half I have seen for quite awhile.Good dig there. Come get me so we could hunt together.

Another thing. That certainly is the highest grade of capped bust half dollar coin I have ever been fortunate enough to see,dug or undug . The shoulder clasp is truly clear. Good work!!!!!

Wow the detail on that half is amazing! Congrats!

I dream of finding a Capped Bust.............. Congrats!! HH

Don't get much better than that!

Spectacular! I would be staring at that coin in a catatonic state for at lest 10 minutes after discovering it. :treasurechest::notworthy:

Holy smokes that is a beauty! Love it!

Funny you say that, that is exactly what I did when I dug my 1833 half. Then I just left and went home, figured it wouldn't get any better than that.
