1850s Sportsman's button, Colonial & More!
Hello all! Went back home to relic country this weekend & found a few interesting things. I went to Virginia Saturday & got skunked. I left about 2 & finished the last 2 hours at my great gmas house. I've hit that place many times but its still giving! I got 4 wheats, 4 lead seals, another "For Amusement Only" token & a lantern piece patented 1867. Sunday I hit a spot I've been searching for 20 years off & on, the site of a Rev War generals plantation (burned in the 30s) Its really tough hunting in the thick woods (see pic) I recovered a colonial door knob, piece if a carpenters ruler (some wood still intact), a few buckles, a colonial hinge, colonial saddle decoration, a suspender clip & an unknown brass item (foot of off something) the find of the day was a really neat 1850s Sportsman's button marked Hammond Turner and Sons. Found one exactly like it online (see pic). It's British made. They also made buttons for the confederacy. Too bad it wasn't one of those! I didn't find anything groundbreaking but it was fun to get out, get some fresh air & save some history!! Thanks for looking & HH!
