Only had a brief amount of time to get out this morning but sure glad I did. Went back to what has been a very productive wooded area where a house once stood. Have pulled numerous buttons, copper and silver coins dating from late 1700's thru mid 1800's. Today I stepped it up to gold. Minelab Equinox 600 gave me a solid 16 reading from several directions but also a bit of iron tone nearby the target. Dug it anyway as it was very repeatable. Low and behold I see the glimmer of gold coming from the rim of a coin. I gently pulled the coin out and sprayed with some water that I always keep on me. The water rinses the sand away to reveal a beautiflly preserved 1851 No mint mark 2 1/2 dollar gold coin. What a day!!!

Congratulations, from a fellow Long Islander! Very inspiring!

Why does it look like two different coins ?

Wow, that’s an absolute dream. Way to go on a find most of us only ever dream of!!

Beauty just a pure beauty.

Why does it look like two different coins ?

You can tell it is the same coin by the slight blemish on her cheek and the ding on the rim of the coin under the 2 1/2.

To me, a US gold coin is the ultimate find. Rare, beautiful, valuable, and the item we all dream of. Your find keeps the dream alive for me. Congrats! C'mon spring! Gary

DUDEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HUGE CONGRATS! From a fellow LI'er here who knows ya. :icon_thumright:

Congrats on the bucket list find! Banner all he way!

I would for sure get it graded and put in a nice air tight holder and display that bad boy!!!!!!!Tommy

Definitely will be having it graded and protected in a holder so I can pass it down to my son one day.

Congratulations, from a fellow Long Islander! Very inspiring!

Thank you Claire - Hope you and everyone has to opportunity one day to find theirs.

Why does it look like two different coins ?

The second set of photos were with a macro lens after I had rinsed it off. Lighting I think caused the different "gold" tone

Outstanding find BrianNY! What a gorgeous coin. I think my heart might explode if I saw that gold rim staring at me from the bottom of the hole.

Congrats on that great looking Gold coin.

What an amazing coin! Banner and congratulations!

WOW!

I just checked my bucket. A gold coin is so far fetched for me it's not even on my bucket list or wildest imagination. Way to go!

Congratulations. I nominated it for a banner too. Given the age, condition, precious metal type, beauty, and rarity, this is truly a terrific find.

Awesome!!! Congrats!!!

That is a true bucket list find! Big congrats!
