So I went back to my site were I found my two 1890 coins in my horse shoe square shape area in the bottoms. Well I went back after pounded by a quick rain and mudslicked into the creek. The mud almost like quicksand sticking in with each boot step, I started swinging and then I got a few good hits, with buttons and a few just random almost block shapes of brass. Then I have a good hit towards the middle of the of the bow shape behind the square and then started digging (got my shovel this time) and then in the hole I saw two coins sticking halfway one really appealing then I get down to pull them out then 1852 gold coin and in the dirt at the bottom of the hole 4 big pennys come with it.

dang! Nice find!

VERY NICE FIND MY FRIEND...I have yet to find any gold coin or for that matter any silver lately...I like logging camps but this makes me sick...way to go..

Congrats on that pocket spill. Goes to show the stuff is still out there to find. People dropped stuff. I've got a guy down the road that use to ask me why do you hunt old home sites? Nobody had money in those days are you just looking for old scrap copper and brass? Lol I took him down my silver coin bag with 1800s silver + newer and my Indian head cents bags with more than 15 Indian head cents in it. I also took my oldest coin an 1838 large cent. I found almost all of these in the fields around my house and not far from my house. He just stood there for a minute and said wow I didn't think they had money back then I told him people used money like we do today. One week later he is in his field with a old whites metal detector he must of had in closet. Of course I stopped and he just smiled and showed me an Indian head and a couple of wheats. Lol the moral to my story is the gold and silver is still out there. We prove it all the time with the silver and every now and then someone post a gold coin. This is a fun hobby and I'm still waiting on my gold coin but having fun hunting. I hope I get lucky enough to one day pass my coil over a gold coin. Congrats again on an awesome coin spill and a well deserved banner.

Congrats on the Banner

That's an interesting find. Too bad there wasn't a mint mark.
That would be a great coin to put on display. A definite keeper.
