1867-1883 Shield Nickel

Unfortunately no date left. Very little remaining of shield on back, but front is pretty good. Thought it was a penny until I rinsed it off.
Once again...found in my yard. I swear I am not leaving this yard to detect anymore!!

your yard seems to be producing well--i would slowly search every nook n cranny of that yard with finds like that

I can hardly find a Buffalo and here you find a Shield..and in your own yard! I'll bet that was quite a surprise..nice job

I just studied the back of it and I am pretty sure 5 is the last digit in the date...leaving 1875 the only possibility if it is in fact a 5.

I know how you feel. I was overjoyed to find the following shield nickel last fall.....but I can't quite make out the whole date either. I can read 187?

I sure wish I could make out that last number!
