Awesome find!! Still looking for my first silver dollar after 24 years. Congrats and continued GL to you!

Wow, seriously? I never imagined the coin was that uncommon...this is the largest detecting forum on the net, is it not? Nobody has found/posted one of these before? I contacted the landowner again and will be headed back tomorrow with a few different search coils.

Excellent find,, Seated Silver Dollar,, dreams are made of coins like that,, Congrats

Just curious. Did you let the land owner know that you found it? If it was me I would have probably just shown him the penny's! Haha

Yes, the land owner knows.

Yes, the land owner knows.

Well that is the best and honest way for sure. Not the easiest thing to do in all situations though! [emoji106]

I GOT ONE MORE SILVER DOLLAR AND THAT AINT GONNA STOP ME NO FROM POSTING THIS NICE FIND ,,.

If I knew this was as uncommon as you guys are making it out to be- I would have put "1870 silver dollar" in the title. I guess we can call it a SLD?

Is there any way to have the title changed?

Found my first old silver dollar

That's just crazy, and I don't remember seeing another one posted. If there has, it's been years. Awesome find right there

Well , If it's not a contemporary counterfeit , it's probably rare enough to be banner worthy - and if it is an original mint issue it has to be a banner coin - seriously
when was the last time anybody here can remember a pre - Morgan dollar being dug and posted here ...anybody ? vote is going up now !

I think it's banner worthy in any case, counterfeit or not. Rare find with a metal detector. Banner for sure.

Just for fun, I contact what is advertised as an old, well established, trained and reputable coin dealer. They said they would give me $20 for it. No thanks. :icon_scratch:

Heck of a find there!

Yeah great find.
I will vote for it.
My "gut" feeling is, it is real, it has the "right" look to me. Should be no problem to know for sure, if it's the correct weight, minus a tiny bit for the hole, and passes a silver test, it's real.

Keep in mind I have the Utmost respect for doninbrewster and looking at the "blow up" sized coin I have some concern around the hole. But still I'm thinking real, and posted less often than gold coins is Banner.

I found this just a few months after I started detecting.

Not that I come in this forum every day, but I still haven't seen another seated dollar yet. I had no idea how lucky I was to find it.

Once the snow melts, I think I will go back to that house and see if I can find anything else. I have a standing permission. :)

some people have all the luck ! i'm still waiting to hear if the cent is a '43 ? and its value ? nice dollar for sure.

Awesome, put a chain on it and wear it again
Never know where that dollar has been. Way cool.
