I was over in a nearby town buying a couple of antique bottles when I happened upon the old train depot. It was built in 1908. The city was building a new road to it and had excavated a lot of dirt. They had removed the first foot or more of soil and hauled away. I would love to know where they dumped it. But there were still some piles of dirt on the sides of the new road so I got out to check it. I wasn't even going to bring detector but I always seem to run into an opportunity to detect when I don't have detector in the truck. So I loaded it up. And glad I did. Found this 1875 Seated Liberty Half Dollar. She's a bit beat up but a beauty. I found an 1876 Seated quarter a couple years back so I need the dime now. I'll add the bottles I picked up also. A nice Mt. Vernon. And the amethyst soda bottle is an eye catcher.

A very cool story. All your finds are very nice but I especially love those Palatka bottles! Congratulations

Great seated half-dollar find! I like the bottles, too! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. I recently started collecting the local antique soda bottles. Gainesville, Palatka , Jacksonville. The clear one I already had. The light purple one is the one I bought. The fella I got it from digs an old dump on the north side of town in Palatka. He purposely lays the bottles out in the sun to get it the purple color. He says they sell for more money.😄 The Mt. Vernon Whiskey bottle was just too cool to pass up.
