1876 Carson City Quarter, lots of flat buttons, full sickle & big crotal!

I switched tactics today and went for a couple totally new sites based on an 1845 drawing. However, evidence pointed toward much earlier occupation.

Two sites were nowhere to be found and the third didn't look anything like a former dwelling.

However there was iron and I had no other options so I started tearing out grunts. The first good sign was a flat button, followed by a spoon in a trash pit I will excavate in the future

ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1467561583.858210.webpFound a bunch of cut nails, and then I pulled a complete sickle out of the ground!

I happened upon a button spill followed by a few more random buttons including some great tombacs, a bell, and tons of shotgun shells. Just when I thought there were no coins to be found I got the most beautiful signal. A great Carson City quarter. Holed! How it got from Carson City Nevada to Eastern Long Island is beyond me....

After that I looked around some more but it's time for a beer and a swim in the pool. God I love having a couple days off!

A Great day !!!!!!!!!!! Those fresh untouched sites are Fun to hunt... Congrats on your finds and especially The '75 CC. Whatever the coin found it's Always and adrenaline rush when it's from Carson City......
:notworthy:

I'm not sure if the site was untouched, I had two high tones the whole hunt. One was that brass bridal ring, and the second was the seated. That said, my next best signals were 12-35's or lower (think Indians signal).

Either way, it's always a rush digging big seateds!

Scrappy that quarter is freakin sweet Great job post when you excavate where you found the spoon

I will certainly post. The trash pit I estimate to be 8' x 10' roughly. Some of the bottle shards found were super early. All hand made

Cool bunch of finds Scrappy, love the CC quarter...

Congrats on that sweet CC Seated Steve. Sorry that the 1st two sites could not be located. Looks like you had a great day digging and you're enjoying the holiday.

Looks like a great hunt! Nice seated liberty! What kind of hand tool are you using? I'm having trouble with my lesche hurting my palm and like the looks of the handle on yours. Thanks and congrats!

That's making research pay off.........and with future excavations, that site should pay huge dividends...........
Congrats and thanks for the reminder of the importance of looking back in time................

WOW!! ....Oh, and one other thing I can add to that....WOW!! :notworthy:

sweet site ya got there

Great find! Our Centennial quarter and A Carson City no less. Got to be thrilled with that one way to go. I like the good, bad, and the ugly reference also. LOL

You're killing it man! Seeing the picture with the spoon, bone and glass makes me drool. It looks like the glass and bone was very concentrated in that plug... and I'm guessing it was grunting iron all over the place too. That looks like a prime spot to sift dude. OH... and sick quarter. I want a seated so bad and I want a holed coin. Awesome hunt!

Nice bunch of finds congrats on them and your perseverance

Thanks Art. At times you just want to say f-it and get in an air conditioned room, but experience proves to keep going. Detecting is a tough hobby on the mind sometimes, and most certainly requires a glass half-full

I use the Lesch 18" t-handle. I haven't had a problem with it hurting my hand, but I'm always using the foot steps because it's much more efficient. Thanks for looking

That cc is a bucket lister for most coin guys and gals. I love that thing. Esp with the hole

Nice score on the seated but the site many be hiding a few earlier goodies based on the flat buttons. Good luck picking through the iron

I couldn't agree more. All of those buttons predate that seated by 50 years. Some maybe even 100. They're in the pit.....

....to be continued? Lok

Absolutely, my words as well. I was so happy pulling that from the ground. It's only my 3rd seated quarter and 2nd CC. I've been carrying it for two days! Lol

One small shovel of dirt brought up all that stuff Brad. The pit extended over 10' to where I pulled 5 or 6 flat buttons in a spill. I have a feeling this was a pit for a very long time. I can't wait to get back there and
dig everything up.

Great coin! Your research has you very close, the tools prove that. Hope you are able to lock in on the site.

Killer, killer, killer! Congrats on a killer find my man,
