1877 Indian Head Penny
My coin book says this coin is quite valuable (Probably not in this condition)
Anyone know anything further on this???

Nice find.

They don't grade dug coins, at least that has been their stance for years. Slab it yourself in a coin holder and if you ever decide to sell it let the date be the guide for the buyer.

You may want to look into a company called "NCS" Numismatic Conservation Service. It is a sister company of "NGC" Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. They "Clean" or "Conserve" the coin and place it in a slab as "Genuine"
Lots of old coppers and such are traded this way on the coin market.
Your very valuable coin seem like a good candidate to me.

ANACS graded my dug coin, with no problem. 1857 lg cent. Once I learn how to download photos I'll download it, it's a beaut!

Hi you have to take the Value for a coin in Good condition and divide it by 2
the current price for this coin is $850 in Good condition divided by 2
equals $425 for the value. If the coin is sent off to PCGS or NGC they would
not grade it because it was dug up from the ground, and it has corossion
on the coin from being in the ground. So if someone offers you between
$318.00 to $425.00 if i was you i would sell it.

Great find! Do you think you could post a close up of the coin. It is a little tough to see in those pics. When I blow it up it almost looks like a 1887

That is what happened to me a few months back.. I'm still new to metal detecting only been doing for 6 months so this was about my 3rd month into detecting I popped a IH out of the ground looked at the date all that was showing was 18-7 the way it was corroded I thought I had 1877 .. I about pooped my pants..haha Then when I got home I washed it off an turned out to be a 1887 ..How disappointing !!!

I have tried and tried to get a close up, when i do that the pic comes out blurry. Sorry. I would like nothing more than to post a better date shot. I am 200% sure it is 1877...POSITIVE!

If it really is an 1877 I'll give you $100 for it. Corrosion does dramatically effect the value, but you still have a very nice key date coin there.

If you got it to me I could take some great shots of it, shame you do not live closer. Sweet find!
