Great find! Do you think you could post a close up of the coin. It is a little tough to see in those pics. When I blow it up it almost looks like a 1887 and i would LOVE to get a better idea of the condition. Thanks. Such a truly great week heck MONTH of detecting happening. I need to get out and hunt. I have seen more great recoveries this month than in the many months prior I lurked on this site.

Maybe my latest pic will help???THink you can see the 3rd digit is a 7. I'll try in the daylight tomorrow..having a heck of a time trying to get a good shot of the date with indoor lighting. For now you will have to take my word for it.

BANNER! BANNER! BANNER!
What a great find. The holy grail of IH's!!! Congrats on an amazing find. My closest to that year has been a 1874.
Keep us posted on the results of this beauty.

Nice!!! I found it as being worth approx 440.00 { V8 }

Nice find. I would like to find something like that. congrats.

Hope my new pics show the date better...went under the fluroescent light in the garage. A photographer I am not!

Great find! Whether you ever make any money on it or not, it's still one that very few others have found! I've found about 100 Indians, and only one was from the 1870's.

I have no intention of selling it. It means more to me than the money!

I AGREE!!!! ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME!!!
BANNER!!!

Of all the yars to find, you found the one they made the least of? What are the chances of that!?? Nice going!

I'd have to agree the value is less for coins that are dug (as far as the grading system) but I'd keep that one, I'd never get tired of showing it off!

Congrats,
Nat

Very awesome coin. The 1877 never turns up.

I've dug 300 indians and still haven't got a 77. It will come at some point. Indians are one of the main old coins I find. In 300 indians only about 20 of them were from the 70's. The 70's are hard to come by.

To bad on the condition. Not that it is bad. But once they start flaking that green they lose alot of detail. I would probably clean the coin. But I am very skilled at doing so. I would clean it because it is already flaking away. I'd let it soak for a long time in extra virgin olive oil. That way you won't harm it.

Has anyone here ever had ANACS grade/encapsulate a coin before?? I don't know much about it and was wondering about opinions. Is it worth doing for this?
You don't have to be a member with ANACS and from what I read from their site, they will grade "problem" coins.

Thoughts?

ANACS is probably the best bet. PCGS or NGC will send it back in a plastic "body bag," ungraded, minus your fee. ANACS will at least assign it a "net" grade, which is the condition it would rate without the environmental damage it has from being in the ground.
