It rained here most of the morning, I was really hoping to get out.
So around 1pm it stopped. That kind of shot my plans for the day.. (man im happy about that). So I decided to stay close to home, about 5 blocks from me..lol A PARK???
Yes a park, I believe its been around since mid 1800s.
I was there about a year and a half ago when I first started detecting. Found some wheat pennys there.
So I figured I would spend a few hours just to get out before the holidays. Maybe find some merks and rosies.. Well I found 2 merks a IH and some wheats..
Until the gold coin showed up and stole the show!!!!
The best thing is I got it on video.
At first I thought it was a gold ring, so I pulled out my phone to video it, because my wife keeps saying to me why dont you find gold like the other people??? Lol
I always tell her, im not interested in gold. I like colonial!!!
Well this changes things a little. Haha.
I cant post the video right now, because I was not a Gentleman in it.
Needless to say I was pretty excited over this modern coin!!
This is just icing on the cake, my Christmas came early.
I will never look at a park the same again.
Thanks for looking.
George

Congrats! You've inspired me to check out the 1800s park next door to where I live! You'd better get out there and get that USA button before the 1st!

Great find Vino. I got my first (1906) quarter eagle a few years. A wonderful feeling and a great early Christmas present. Congrats !

Thanks for the VDI info. I know it's all about sound and not numbers, but it's nice to have an idea of what it rings up as. A signal of 77 is an obvious dig, so I'm sure if I swing my coil over one I'm likely to dig it.

Your welcome Mike!!
I Image that was just practice for the Staters were going to find soon?!?!?! Lol

When my phone beeped indicating I had a text message I looked and saw it was from George. I thought to myself oh great, what has he found now! I wasn't prepared for what I saw and heard. The video portion of the video was fine. It was the audio part that had me blushing. It was like someone with tourettes on speed. It would make sailors blush, and women cover their children's ears. Was he excited, YOU BETCHA!!

Congratulations on another stellar banner worthy find my friend. Great way to end the year.

Thanks Jay,
It wasn't that bad. But I see were you got the Tourettes from. Lol
Merry Christmas Buddy..

got a call from BEEZ informing me that you landed a half eagle. I then proceeded to a local stone house to punch the walls. all bandaged up now, so allow me to join the line of minions outside your door to grovel at your feet. the White House residents are on vacation (surprise), so you should hit the front yard on Christmas Day. anyone in favor of changing Treasurenet to " VINONET"??

Thanks Port,
The white house is to modern for me!! Lol

Merry Christmas :icon_santa: George and congrats on your 4th Banner :notworthy:. Gold coins are so scare I don't even think of them when I ponder my bucket list. Looking forward to your next 4 banners in 2016.

George,

Congrats on the 1880 $5 Gold coin find and for getting a Banner for the find! Sorry I missed it before! I have been somewhat AWOL from Treasure Net due to taking a part-time job to get some extra civilian work time to qualify for Social Security Benefits when I hit the 65 year old mark. I have the 40 credits needed but most of the work I did in the last 38+ years was mostly for Uncle Sam and they said I needed civilian work time/credits, otherwise I would not get benefits of any kind from Social Security. Besides getting some more work time to qualify for Social Security Benefits, the money helps me make ends meet due to having 8 people living in my' household (me included) and me having to pay all of the bills. My' Retirement Annuity was just not making it and I was going in a hole every month.

Beautiful coin and in great shape. This rain is making the ground more conductive and I hope I can get out a few hours this week.

Better late than never - Sorry I didn't send my accolades earlier. I've been busy in a hopeless attempt to salvage a very meager hunting year. In contrast, congrats on another tremendous find. I can't hardly imagine the thrill. You've really killed it this year.
