Im just looking for some advice on my first silver coin which is a low mintage 1887 canadian quarter. I can just make out the 87 which are the last two numbers in the year. I don't dare to do anything to it and am assuming that I should take it to a coin shop and see about having it professionally cleaned. Any thoughts would be appreciated

Totally in agreement guys and I appreciate all of the honest feedback. I'm very new at this and am happy to get the good advice and opinions

Good attitude. The coin is very worn & the small amount of oxidation is little concern. In fact it highlights the detail.

Thanks Crusader! I'm just trying to absorb as much info as possible. I'm not sensitive and don't get offended by honesty. I do have a question about an old copper that I found this weekend. It seems to be a blank copper with no detail on it at all. It's about the same size as the late 1700s kg Irish half penny that I found., maybe just a hair bigger. I suppose it could just be so toasted that there's no detail but I'm wondering if there were blank coppers and how old they may be. Thank you

'If' there is detail, I can't see it in the picture. So after years of IDing near blanks in the field, I think it's a scrap pile find, although that's a 'me' scrap pile & not a 'you' one.

Thanks again I will leave you alone for the night but hopefully in the near future have some more interesting finds to ask you about. Much appreciated

I'm always here to help & if I miss your post, just PM me the link. Although I might not always have the anwser, I always have an opinion or a joke, one of the 2.

Then we should get along well :-)
