1890 V Nickel with lines cut in it, why?

interesting, it looks like someone may have inserted the nickle into some sort of punch or stamping machine. Besides the two dots there is an indentation on the rim of the coin relative to the dots.

No idea as to why, could have been someone just having some fun.

looks like someone used something like a leather sewing punch to make those marks. probably bored kids.
 

Now that's interesting. It was found outside of a house that was used as a doctor's office in the late 1800s. With all the traffic through there it's anyone's guess who dropped it. Thabks again!
 

I'm saying it was a gunfighter who was too clever to notch his kills on his pistol grips which could be used against him in a court of law.
