1909 S VDB! " NEW UPDATED PICS" Can see "S" Better!!!

It has been raining here so I looked closer at my finds 4 days ago. I found a 1909 VDB, so I started looking closer for a mint mark and made out an "S"! It is hard to see, I had to move the coin side to side in the light with a magnifying glass to see it, so hope I got it in the pics. Thanks for looking!

Yes, I have been looking for one a long time! I should look over all the other 1909 VDB's I have found in the past again.

It is a small s and it has some corrosion on it. It is hard to make out in pics. You can almost see it better in the pics of the whole penny.
It is below the "0" in 1909.

Re: 1909 S VDB!

I think I see an s in both the shot of the whole penny and can barely make it out on one of the close ups. Nice digs :icon_thumright:. have you thought of trying to clean up just a little to see the s or since this coin is valuable, just leave it be? I've always wondered if I came across a coin like that what would I do? I think it would depend on circumstance. WTG

Send it to anacs or one of the grading houses and have it certified. It will also help with preservation. Just my 2 cents, lol.

Re: 1909 S VDB!

I sure hope you have found a 1909-s! Sadly, I just can't see it from these photographs. Maybe it is clearer in person. I thought at first I could make out an "s" in the second photograph, but I now believe the apparent "s" is shifted too far to the right and must simply be corrosion. I really hope I am wrong.

I'm gonna call it what it is.... Wishful thinking. There is no S there.
