1909 S VDB! " NEW UPDATED PICS" Can see "S" Better!!!

It has been raining here so I looked closer at my finds 4 days ago. I found a 1909 VDB, so I started looking closer for a mint mark and made out an "S"! It is hard to see, I had to move the coin side to side in the light with a magnifying glass to see it, so hope I got it in the pics. Thanks for looking!

First Post to this forum, but long time reader, 40+ years coin collecting & 40 yrs of detecting...

After seeing the latest pictures, a 1909 vdb is a great find. A "s" would be wow!

First, all the 1909-S VDB Lincoln cents were struck with four different obverse dies.
However, this does not appear to match these varities for placement or style of those mint marks.
Additionally, although hard to see the "B" in V.D.B. does not have the correct style.

The "s" should also be as strong as the date numbers, even in this condition...

With the 1909-S vdb coin is the most counterfeited penny and possible coin known, it likely may fall into that category.

It could even be a 1909S VDB mint error possibly :)! Who would have counterfeited it in the early 1900s before it was dropped though? I wouldn't think this was the case from the looks of it,I found it about 10" down with some 1919 pennies that were in good shape around it at about the same depth. The corrosion makes it hard to judge. Thanks for looking and your interest! WELCOME to TNET!!!!! Hope you have fun on here!

I might just do that, It's the first really rare coin that I found in 43+ years of MDing.

Send it in to somebody to get graded.... Let them be the judge if it is an S or not.

Nice 1909 VDB by the way. I find one or two of those a year. :icon_thumright:

Daddy this is one of your best finds! I'm gonna vote to have you on the banner... And, he let me look through the magnifying glass and I could see the S :icon_thumright:
