S. The D has points on end and is slightly smaller that year.

Okay thank you

I agree with Scrappy. Zooming in on the photo it's like you see a little path through, it's weaker there, but I believe it's an "S".

Darn that s mint mark, but the date on the front make your heart race? GL HH

Ya I'll find one sooner or later. The hunt is always on!!!

"S" I once found one while coin roll hunting and it looked like yours

I got a small question. What would it matter if it was a "D"? Besides knowing you found one? :)

Congrats!

Congrats!

In that condition....about $500 bucks....

You really believe that? Is it still April the oneth? ;)

Thanks!

It's a fact, Jack....16-D Merc....big money, key date...S, not so much....

Yep, and if you find someone who would pay big bucks for a coin in that condition, let me know. Ya see, I have this bridge. ;)

I had 3 of them, all very similar condition... All confirmed D mintmarks as well. Got them cherry picking etc. i sold one, rather traded one to a coin dealer for a 1999 one ounce 50 dollar gold coin. At that time though, an ounce was $550 dollars. It was a even up trade, so i guess i can vouch for that...

One born every minute. ;) Was it in this condition? With half the mint mark gone?

By the by, would he be interested in bridges? ;)

FWIW... I bought a 16-D about a month ago, paid $200 for it...It just got certified as a AG3....value of about $500...
Got an offer already from a guy in my local coin club, told me $850....
I don't even have it in my possession yet, my local dealer has it, will be picking it up next week...

Yes. They all have a strong pointy upper half and vague bottoms. I brought one that also had a scratch on it and i was asking around as to what i could get from dealers at a show. At the third guy or so, he said here, take your pick of these. He had many different date one ounce gold coins. I happened to be missing that one (of course) but i had the half, quarter and tenth ounces of the same year, so it also made a complete set of those for me. Cross my heart and hope to die, i tell no lie. It was his offer, and it was something i was wanting.

I'm very happy for you! (If you're selling that is). But, I wasn't saying that a 16-d was worthless. Just that if you have to count how many atoms are left in the mint mark in order to determine. There absolutely WOULD be SOMEbody who will pay big for it! Just, not real likely and not many.
