I've not heard of a 1940 either. I believe that is pmd, looks like it just took a hit
 

I found a counterfeit nickel, 1943 as I recall. Not struck on wrong planchette, but counterfeit, which struck me as bizarre. Who counterfeits nickels??

Weigh yours, and have it examined by more than one expert if you can.
 

Unfortunately I think it's PMD. Henning nickels are a cool story. Snagged one of eBay a few years ago as part of a lot.

In 1943 a nickel had the purchase power of 71 cents today. That was enough motivation for counterfeiting.
