1940 Henning nickel? Looped R

Has anyone ever heard of a Henning nickel from 1940. I found this today with what looks like it has the classic looped R I've seen in other Hennings but I've never heard of one from 1940. Looking for opinions. Henning or PMD

I've not heard of a 1940 either. I believe that is pmd, looks like it just took a hit

Was that the counterfeit nickels ?? If so yes the story is awesome

I found a counterfeit nickel, 1943 as I recall. Not struck on wrong planchette, but counterfeit, which struck me as bizarre. Who counterfeits nickels??

Weigh yours, and have it examined by more than one expert if you can.

Unfortunately I think it's PMD. Henning nickels are a cool story. Snagged one of eBay a few years ago as part of a lot.

In 1943 a nickel had the purchase power of 71 cents today. That was enough motivation for counterfeiting.
