So, I was at a thrift store and I found a clarinet on sale for $49. This is cheaper than the other clarinet that I previously bought.

After deciding to buy it, I did some research on the model. Turns out this is a 1940s clarinet. Has a really good sound. Pads are in good condition. In fact, it sounds better than my other clarinet.

There was a note inside the box, that said ?used in my family 1950s, 1960s, 1980.?

$49 for a very old clarinet that sounds great? I?ll take it!

That's a nice grab. Those older instruments are finer quality.

There are always tons of used instruments on shopgoodwill. A buddy of mine wanted a trumpet a couple years ago so he bid on one. He lost the bid. So he went back on and bid on 6 of them - and won them all! He kept the best one and took the others to be refurbished by a retired music store technician. Then took the finished horns to the high school and told the band director he could offer them cheap to low income students. He sold them all. He didn't quite get all his money back but the act was it's own reward.
