Possibly it could be considered rare, but let me know. I call it the BLOB D.
Die chip. A lot of that used to happen in Denver before mint marks were an integral part of die manufacturing. When the mint mark was struck into the working die, the stresses would occasionally create a weak point at the center of the “D”. This is the most common place on cents from Denver to show die chips. Still worth a few bucks to the right collector.
Die chips causing clogged letters and numbers are fairly common. They usually only bring a slight premium to error collectors, and considering the condition of yours, very little premium if any.
