1st coin spill with the AT GOLD

in the heat of the day, after wading through the pieces of wire, pull tabs, foil and coax connectors, (i live in an RV park, only permanent resident other than owner) i managed to find a couple of memorial pennies here and there. most of my hunting in this park is in a hardened mixture of clay and tons of gravel, making for nearly a hammer and chisel dig for most of it. i have some grass with actual dirt but this is shallow with shale inches down. the foil alone will drive you nuts but then you throw in a zillion pull tabs and wire and it seems that it is all you dig. then you get a "good" coin type signal and it is usually another connector. So today, in the heat of noon time, the sweat pouring down my face, I get this screaming dig me signal on my AT GOLD, 81, 83 back and forth, I'm thinking yeah silver man! just as i squat down to pin point and dig, the clouds opened up to my relief and for once I didn't have to worry about my detector getting wet. I pull out a memorial and start to cover the hole back up but then thought about how hard that had sounded and pulled my detector over and sure enough, this hammering hard so i poked my pin pointer back in and out came a dime, another swing and still hammering! so I dig a little deeper and out comes a quarter, the pin pointer is going nuts in the hole and i pull out another quarter, then a dime and it is finally silent. not a spectacular coin spill but my first with the GOLD. I missed silver by one year on one of the quarters... oh well. I have been getting a lot of good help and encouragement from numerous members of this forum and I really appreciate it all. i also got my coil cover and water proof head phones in today so its been a great day indeed. Coin spills are great fun, regardless of the years of the coins. But give yourself a digging break and try a sand or wood chip tot lot. Easy digging and usually some coins to,be found.

Coin spills are fun. Whenever I get indications that bump all over the display, but mostly hit different coin values I always dig. 3 times out of 5 it'll be a coin spill.

when you live out in the sticks, 90 miles from anywhere, finding those type of places are a lot tougher to find, especially in the mountains. the biggest town around prohibits detecting in the parks etc. most of the towns around me are very small, populations of 105 to like 407. being on a fixed income that seems to be less and less, i am forced to concentrate closer to home. really makes you appreciate a chance at real dirt digging. i'm not alone, there are others who have limited access to places, i finally got permission to hunt an old house pace out in the backwoods, catch is when they are ready for me to do it, i have no idea where it is. you might say that it is part of the price i pay to live in a relatively quiet area of the world where almost everyone knows everyone and crime is low. it is also where my mother's side of the family has lived since before the civil war, my father's side much longer, being Native American. the doors will open to more places, just takes a little time and i hope to be more ready with my AT GOLD when they happen. I am just pretty excited about how much better the GOLD is than the ACE, which was a good machine and is now the wife's. I really like this machine and the more i use it, the more i like it.

forgot to add this, i had gone back out to a couple of camp sites that had just vacated, using the AT GOLD i found 7 quarters, 5 dimes, 1 nickle, 24 pennies and my first dollar coin, a Susan B Anthony. the Susan almost didn't get dug up, it was very hard digging but i kept getting a 86 and 87 signal and a great tone. was totally surprised to see it. it was the best day ever in this park and it was pretty awesome to hear those tones and see the numbers. i know that most of the time an 81 is either a dime or a memorial penny. 83 tends to be a quarter, 74 to 77 zinc. i almost didn't dig a 59/60 that turned out to be a modern nickle. as cool and fun as these numbers are, i still mainly try to listen to what the detector tells me.

A coin spill can sound too good to be true... In areas with lots of buried beer cans, they are easily overlooked...

I went over an area I had hunted quite extensively and decided to dig these too good to be true signals and I found a lot of junk and three coin spills I had overlooked...

I am amazed at how this 5 by 8 coil is able to separate the close signals, you know for sure in a lot of cases that there is a distinct good tone hidden with the trashy sounding stuff. the dollar coin would have most likely been missed by the ace 250, it was pretty deep and my wife and i were totally surprised. i actually found a second coin spill last evening, there were four quarters in an area of about a foot and a half circle. i quit last evening because my knees were killing me, between the rocks and gravel and my old bones but the mind wanted to keep hunting. i have knee pads but they create their own problem, i am looking for some better ones (as well as a better body! lol ). when you have confidence in anything, we tend to use it more often and the Gold is already calling my name to get back out there... so gotta go! good hunting all
