I too believe this huge pot would have had many uses, mainly the hog scalding and laundry usage suggested. This is a wonderful find and once cleaned up, would certainly be worth a few dollars for the right person. Great responses given to the poster.

i think thats the type of pot, used by some of those roadside stops, that had the boiled peanuts
cool find, wonder why bury it instead of scrap it
due to the striations in the soil above and around the pot, it appears that it was buried slowly over a long time.

I really need to work on my plug cutting technique.
Lol at this. I imagine there was no being delicate and manicuring the lawn after.

Old maps of the county may show what was there in the 1800's. UGA has a great map collection, and most larger public libraries have county maps. If there were buisnesses close by, the Sanborn Insurance maps are a great resource. Tony

I have a relative that has one in their yard that they used way back. It has a large crack in it. Is it possible to repair the crack and it become more then just a hunk of junk under the leaves?

Hello ga/digger. That is one swell find, my compliments on your resolve in diggin' that up. You have my vote for largest relic find.

What'ca gonna do with it? Maybe scald some hogs or make some lard or soap? I would hate to have to do laundry in that thing.

See below for the closest thing I have found to it. HH and may the finds be with you. C9

NC Trip Tea Kettle as was.webp

With all your finds together it might suggest a plantation was on your property at 1 time and you are digging up things from the livery, blacksmith shop and kitchen I would try and get ahold of some old maps to figure out what you have stumbled upon.

I think I got it narrowed down to a fella born around here in the 1788.( John Baughn, Oglthorpe co. Ga.) Then moved up and built a house on the road in 1845. Started a family, started and taught at a school next door(that later became a church). Became a col in confederate army, a S.W. for the nardatha lodge (mason). Still doing research. any guesses on the odd shaped hand made iron things?

Put all the items you have questions about and post them in What is it forum a lot of people will give you ideas on them or know what they are as this is an older post and might not have many people looking.
