I went back for another 2 hour evening hunt at the private school that has been so good to me lately. Tonight was no exception. I was doing a little exploration detecting in some other areas that I hadn't hit yet and got a nice signal under some old maple trees. I was surprised to see a nice hefty man's ring staring up at me from the bottom of the hole. It took me a little off guard because I hadn't found any jewelry here yet. I put it in my bag without even sneaking a peak at it. I checked it out when I got home and it appears to be silver but is unmarked. It came out of the ground looking just like it does now in the photo below. About 20 feet away I found a silver quarter that came out of the ground a dull powdery white. I haven't experienced this with a silver coin yet and I'm not sure what would cause that, anybody know? Moving on I came to an open area out from under the trees (it was getting dark under there) and I started to find evidence of an older site. First I dug up a large flat button with a checkerboard type design on it (can anyone give an approx date to this?) and then I found a large piece of an old iron pot. And my last signal before I lost my light was this old brass spoon. It was worn down on the tip from being used for a long time. There is also a mark in the bowl that kinda looks like a reeded circle with three spoons in the center of it. The two spoons on the sides have the handles are facing down and the one in the center faces up. Can anyone give a date to this? I'm thinking that I may be honing in on another early home site considering the last three finds and I'd love to get an idea of what era it may be from. Hopefully it will yield a couple of colonial coppers like the last one did.

*UPDATE*
I realized that I could find out if the ring was silver or white gold (it isn't marked) by just using my detector. My wedding band it almost identical to this ring and is made of white gold so if the signals matched I could assume the composition was the same, right? Well, my ring rang in as a nickel and the found ring as a quarter so I guess that means its silver and not white gold. Oh well........

Cool finds, inca!

Great ring and real nice patina on the brass and copper.
