Hello my friend!
Nice bridal rosette.

Re: 2 COLONIAL HUNTS*HARD TIMES TOKEN & BRIDAL ROSETTE

Both are great finds. As for the mushrooms, those are morels, best of the eaters. Slice them in half length wise, wash them good, lightly dust them with a mix of flour and seasoning salt and fry over butter...you will probably go look for more after you taste them :icon_thumleft:. I have found over 800 this year so far and the big yellows are just coming out here.

Re: 2 COLONIAL HUNTS*HARD TIMES TOKEN & BRIDAL ROSETTE

Love the bridal rosette Dave!
When would you say that would date to? :icon_scratch:
Is that spoon very old?

Thanks,
Dave

Re: 2 COLONIAL HUNTS*HARD TIMES TOKEN & BRIDAL ROSETTE

CAUTION: Don't eat wild mushrooms unless you go with an experienced mushroom gatherer, and even then go where that person has gathered and eaten the same type previously! Besides the tasty morels, there are FALSE MORELS which look similar and can be highly toxic. Apparently their toxins can build up over a period of time in the body and may eventually cause death. See www.northerncountrymorels.com as one informative website about false morels, and there are more websites on poisonous mushrooms. I have eaten wild mushrooms, including morels. But also on one supervised mushroom hunt, the two botanists who led the hunt explained to us that their fellow professor died a year earlier from eating a poisonous wild mushroom. All three were specialists in mushrooms! Even experts make mistakes. Let's all live to enjoy our treasure hunting for years to come! Andi

Re: 2 COLONIAL HUNTS*HARD TIMES TOKEN & BRIDAL ROSETTE

:icon_scratch: That's some real wise advise about eating things growing wild out there. You might think that some people are just too cautious but, if you think about it Mother Nature is a "Natural Trickster" and she has lots of tricks up her sleeve. :-*
I'd like to see you hang around for another 50 years with the forum then to find out later that you took the chance but, mad a bad judgement in identity. :read2: She'll take the best of us all sooner or later.

Re: 2 COLONIAL HUNTS*HARD TIMES TOKEN & BRIDAL ROSETTE

I like the Rosette . and the hard times token is a good find too ! As far as the mushrooms go ! They are edible and deliscious. . The only warning is. If you have never eaten this species only eat a small amount the first time just to make sure you are not alergic to them ! M.R.

Congrats on the finds! HH, Mike

Re: 2 COLONIAL HUNTS*HARD TIMES TOKEN & BRIDAL ROSETTE

nice hard times token.

if the base of the caps on those morels is attached to the stem, then your'e good to go,
but if the base of the cap is not attached and the stem goes up inside the morel, then you've
got half-free morels, which i avoid, although many people do eat them.

yo HM

From the land of the Bluenose.....nice scoff on the hard times token! looks as if that was a pleasant place to hunt and the weather cooperated!
