Went back out today to my new spot. This time walked about 500 yrds to where I wanted to try right next to the wAter my first 4 signals were buttons. I hadn't walked but 30 or so feet in the new field when a truck pulls up to my mom a ways off then drives off. I walk to her and she said he didn't want use detecting she said she told him we had permission but he said he was the owner and we had got permission from the guy who he leases to. Well there goes this good spot. On the way out I just kept detecting and my last two signals were coppers :) A 1788 and a smooth KGIII.

The 1788 must be a state copper. Connecticut maybe? Nice finds... but a shame about the permission. Sorry to hear that.

That's what I thought evolution but all the writing looks like a KGIII.

I still think its a state copper. It looks like a "B" on the right followed by an asterisk. It would probably say "LIB" there if it was a state copper.

If it were a KGIII it would be an "A" there for Britannia.

connec copper.webp Here's one on ebay for sale.

Some Vermont State coppers have a similar reverse as well. I can't see enough of the obverse of your coin to really tell what you've got.

Thanks after looking some more I think it's a Vermont. The front says georgvis and does say lib found one similar looking on a Vermont not sure wich one yet. Thank you!

Without seeing the front details I think from what you say is that you have found a Machin's Mills Vlack 13-88CT !!! Congratulations on getting a very nice MM copper, better than a plain ole CT or VT..... :)

Nice digs . Thanks for the pics

Awesome coins, sucks you lost permission, there's more sites out there!

Nice finds. I'd double check with the guy who gave you permission to make sure it was the owner in the truck. It could've been a competitor posing as the owner.

Thanks Don. It looks just like it. I guess that's why I couldn't find a Vermont match. Now I'm excited well I was before lol

Even though it's only listed as very scarce, I think it's a great find being a cross-over piece. Would certainly make my day.

Very nice copper - maybe you can get back into that site someday.

That is just too cool! I hope to get into the 1700's, just last week I found my first coin from 1800's and Saturday I found two more. Congratulations !!!!!

Thanks diggin dude. You'll get there soon congrats on the 1800s IP what do you mean by cross over piece.
