I have been eyeballing this foundation site since last fall. Today I managed to get lucky and caught someone outside in the driveway. I asked him if he owned the lot and he said his ex-wife did. I told him what I wanted to do and he said let me ask her . I was still standing on the porch when he asked her and I heard a no ! He then proceded to argue for me and managed to convince her that it would be ok.
Bill was his name and he is my new hero
The foundations, "there are two of them, house and barn" are visible from the main road. But I kept my fingers crossed that it had not been pounded to death by other hunters. It turned out that it had been poached on pretty hard . Yet I still managed enough finds to merit a return trip ! The large cent is toast. I could just make out the one in one cent on the reverse with a mag glass so matron head I guess ?? The two civil war tokens made up for it though. the liberty token with the 1864 date and the OUR ARMY on the reverse was a first for me . This is my third ARMY & NAVY token so they must have been common in Maine. The large great coat button 37 mm in diameter has an interesting arrow design on it that I have never come across ! The sterling silver handled fruit knife or letter opener with the "B" engraved on it was a nice surprise ! I also believe the folding spoon is civil war era as well . I also liked the rose embossed garmet hook and the small bell was pretty neat too. Thanks for looking ! MaineRelic
