Hi all,
It was above freezing and the sun thawed the ground pretty good, so I decided to get out and swing the coil at a nearby school for a couple of hours. I found a weight, some keys, a toy car, some zipper pulls, a gear, some clad and a cub scout neckerchief slide.
During my first hour I went over to check by the swings and noticed someone (and this is an old story) had wrapped them all up around the top bar. Well I always HATE seeing that, and everytime I go to schools and come across this sight I always fix the swings so that the chains are back the way they should be.
I used my detector to flip a few of the ones that I couldn't reach over the bar. I was almost done flinging the swings back to normal (one was really messed up) when I looked to my left and saw an elderly woman outside in her yard looking my way. I continued fixing the swings and when I looked over a minute later she was gone.
About 10 minutes later I noticed a custodian and a teacher had left the building and was walking toward me. I don't like pretending I don't see people coming my way, and I had the idea that maybe someone reported me, so I shut off my detector and walked toward them. "I just fixed your swings, did somebody call you?" I asked. The teacher said someone did call about somebody "flailing the swings around" so I explained what I did for them and was sincerely thanked. Then I continued detecting.
About a half hour later I noticed a security car had pulled up close to my truck. At first I kept on swinging the coil, but then I noticed one of the security guards was looking at my truck. I thought "here we go again" so I approached the two guys (both probably in their 50's) and as one continued to talk on his phone I heard a voice on the other end talking about someone "walking around the field digging holes."
I heard the security guard telling the guy on the other end that it wasn't anything to worry about, so apparently I made a good impression before I even said a word to either of them.
I told them this just "wasn't my day" with all the people calling on me. They were interested in what I was doing and asked me about what kind of things I find. I even told them about TNet and answered a bunch of questions they had about coins. I could tell I impressed them with my knowledge and really captured their interest. I was more than happy to talk to them and even let them know that I pick up trash and always keep the area looking neat.
Anyway we had a nice chat and they eventually left. I searched about another half hour just to spite whoever may have been spying on "the bust". In the meantime, a helicopter circled over twice and I began to think, "Is this for me too?"
Anyway good prevailed. These older people in the homes surrounding the school can be a bother, but I had an enjoyable hunt otherwise.
