I had one of THOSE days today. Started out ok but then the sun came out from behind the clouds. MAN! Ya know, I think I'm finally getting tired of this summer!
Anyway, a couple of interesting things uncovered before I quit.
First, does anyone think the rock is a "point" of some kind?
The stone off a ring, the lighting I used is bad but the stone's color is red and that is some sort of eagle on the center. Any ideas?
I think the dove medal is probably 60's-70's but, pewter
The usual bunch of clad.
The most interesting is the two buttons. I haven't done any research yet and I didn't really do any cleaning except soap & water with a soft brush. They really came out that nice! Recent?
Also, I didn't notice until after I was on my way home but I sort of did a version of the joke in my signature below. There was a young detectorist in the area today and he was full of questions. When I sat down for a break he scampered over to me and started asking. Whatcha find? Ever been here before? I just got my detector, whatcha think? Etc.
I smiled and tried to remain a gracious host. After all, it was the future of the hobby I was talking to at the time.
I showed what I found and he was amazed! He'd only gotten 3 pennies. He asked me what was the pouch of trash about and I explained how we all have two jobs to do. Save history AND clean the park. He showed me where he'd been digging and I must say, he was doing a fine job refilling!
I then shared a bit of the history of the area and pointed out where the old wagon road used to come through the field. He came up with a really good question.
"If the wagon trail runs way over there, then why are you hunting over here?"
I just tossed the answer without really thinking about it until I was on my way home.
I said, "It's shadier over here."
LOL!!!!
HH!
UPDATE: Since I referred to my signature in this post and then changed it, here's the one I was referring to in the post. :
(I was walking down a sidewalk late one night and happened across a boy who was frantically searching the ground near a street light. I asked him what was wrong, and he told me, "I lost my pennies and I'm trying to find them." Always ready to help, I joined in the search and begin looking around in the grass.
Minutes later, with no pennies to be found, I asked the boy, "Exactly where did you lose them?" He replied, "Oh, up the street about 30 yards." To which I replied in exasperation, "Then why are you looking here?!"
"Oh, the light's better here," he replied.)
