Well AUrabbit all I know is that the price of gold fluctuates quite a bit and that the Seahawks chances of winning are about the same. There's enough gold in the world to meet all demand for industry, jewelry, etc. One major reason is that for the past few thousand years we've been very, very good at re-cycling it.

Additionally, the average gold production cost in the US is about $500/oz. Allow for profit, storage, middlemen (ok, middle persons - heck, Middle Earth), etc. and anything over $600 or so an ounce is a bet that someone else will buy it for more than you paid for it.
