Fantastic post for sure!!!

The LA "1" button is not Louisiana, but a Light Artillery button possibly Albert's AY 43 , 1808-1821, the Rifle button are what they appear, Riflemen buttons, Alberts RF11-13. Can you see any backmarks on these buttons?

Banner for sure!

I'd suggest that you clean them very carefully...water and a light brushing or maybe a light soak in olive oil, but no buffing! You have some valuable buttons there, and over-cleaning will really hurt their value.

If it is a Pelican button you are showing could it be "Terry & Juden Co. Ltd/New Orleans/Made in England"? Perhaps it is worn smooth.

I haven't seen any Pelican button yet. I do see what looks like part of "Waterbury" on the last button back posted.

The two shown with the lined field back are pelican buttons.

are you referring to the 1830's eagle Militia buttons, 3rd pic from the top :icon_scratch:.

Nova Treasure

No...the two at the bottom. Your picture number DSCN0088.JPG. Those are pelicans...note the large bills in each button. The pelican is found on Louisiana buttons.

Here is one with a similar pattern dug on an 1850's site in Texas. This one would have went on a kepi hat. I also have seen that pattern dug on 1830's site in Oklahoma. We also dug a lot of the one piece Great Coat buttons there. I got one eagle side shield from that site but don't have a picture of it handy. It was probably more in line with the ones above from Louisiana.

Typically, on a Pelican button, the Pelican is shown bending over feeding her young in the nest.

Agreed...the Pelican is usually seen feeding the young. But these look earlier than the typical Civil War button that you're referring to.

I agree these are earlier. I believe they are 1 piece, 1830's era buttons. But they are eagles with the shield to the side.

oh, the two at the bottom are the same as the pic at the top, i believe they are 1830's Eagle Militia Buttons. Pelican (Louisiana) button are different.

Either way, They all are amazing finds and a button Dream hunt.

, Bill

Awesome Finds!
Am loving The Rifle Corps & Early Artillery

OK...I guess that my next trip should be to the optometrist! I saw pelicans, but I concede that I'm probably mistaken. Something about those 2 buttons reminded me of pelicans, and I couldn't get them out of my head. Sorry to give misleading information, guys & gals. It wasn't intentional. I guess that I just proved what I said in an earlier message...I'm not of button expert!

I guess I need to make an appointment as well! Now with the newer photos I can see that they are early Navy buttons, possibly Albert's NA74: Navy, 1 Piece "The device on a lined field, without stars." "Treble Gilt/Standard Colour"; 17mm.

OMG!! What?? :laughing9: :laughing7: :laughing9: :laughing7: :laughing9: :laughing7: :dontknow:
Neil, there is no anchor on that shield - LOL

They're definitely Eagles... I've dug several; Armitage was a popular producer of those style Eagle W/ Shield with the long neck protruding from the shield. Got a couple nice

Light Artillery buttons too. You have a nice little military site there. Should be plenty more to find around that property :icon_thumleft:
