283 year old book

Hey everyone!

So, just so you know, I did not find this, my brother did. I still thought it was pretty cool. This is a book that according to the print date, was printed in 1736. Very old! if you don't believe me, look at the print date on the page in one of the pictures.

It's extremely fragile, so we're keeping it in a plastic bag and keeping it in a safe spot.

Don not keep it in a plastic bag! The paper needs to breathe. Get some acid free paper and wrap it in that.

I searched Google and found that Joseph Hussey was born March 31st, 1660 in Fordingbridge, Hampshire and passed in 1726.

Hussey was a rather controversial figure during his time, as he was often
considered as the creator of a religious doctrine known as "Hyper-Calvinism".
(Don't ask what it is...it's a bad headache to even try and understand..LOL)

I do have a couple suggestions, though. First is getting the volume looked
at by a competent bookseller familiar with Hussey's work. Following
that, providing the value is sufficient, I would take it to a competent
bookman and have the volume restored.

Most don't understand that, in the book world "condition" is everything,
and it is not always relevant to the age of the book. No matter if it 5 years
old, or 500 years old, it is still graded by much the same standard.

You by chance have any links to this rare book market you mention? I have quite a few books that I inherited and was hoping to sell them so I can put the proceeds in my brother's trust.

Dug, I've been out of the business too long to give you a trustworthy
reference. With booksellers, reputation is everything. Find a reputable
dealer in your area, and be sure and check them out before you make
any financial commitments.

I'm sure they could give you a reference to someone who can.

I found an old book from 1890 Ishmael trust me look through the pages I found some old post cards they used as book Mark's you never know if theres a bill in there lol. Great find hope it's worth alot. Tommy

Well, there's a store that was going out of business. They're getting rid of their stuff, most of it is books. It's just one giant free Pile in front of where the store was. He found it in that pile.
