While detecting in one of the parks last week I learned a valuable lesson. Never stand up while your foot is on the headphone cable!! Beside nearly ripping my ears off and twisting my neck, it also tore the cable apart at the volume control. Today while shopping at Radio Shack for new headphones, I spotted the B.H. Discovery 1100 detector on clearance for $29.95. I've been wanting to get another detector to take along while asking for permission to hunt property, possibly offering the owner to join me will be an added incentive to let me hunt. I took the Discovery 1100 out to my back yard to get a feel for it and was very happy with the results. I dug everything in the pict's below (except for the pin, which I found with my B.H. 505 at the park yesterday). Even found a few coins that I had missed with my more expensive machine. For the money, the Discovery 1100 was a great deal!

I need a little help dating and identifying the button and pin in the pict's below. The back of the button reads " SCOVILLE MFG CO WATERBURY". It is about the same diameter as a penny. The pin looks to be silver, the back reads "GIORGI 800" and has a small star and what I believe to be the numbers 932 VI. Way smaller than these old eyes can read clearly.

Thanks for any help!

John

The number on the box is 630-3016

I went to the Radio Shack website and put this number in and it showed the detector for $129.99. I found mine at the Radio Shack store in Savoy, Illinois. They had four on the shelf and I only picked up the one. Also did a quick search on E-Bay they run from $30-$80 with $10-$20 for shipping on there. Maybe they were just clearancing them out at this one store???? I would check at your nearest Radio Shack and see what they are asking for them if they are available there.

Congratulations great finds. Perhaps I should have went with another BH myself. I have the pioneer 505 and have been with another person who had a much older BH and one person with the ACE 250. Both of them got hits and when I went over them nothing, not even a wimper in metal mode.

Oh well can't complain to much the BH is getting me some finds.

John:

Thanks so much for providing me with the catalog number
for the BH 1100. It sure helps to have it to get the sale price.

told the clerk he said he will buying one for his son.

That sure looks like a civil war uniform button. I found one just like it at a confederate prison camp on johnsons island in ohio. DOnt know alot about them but it looks the same.

Good Job...great idea on the 2nd detector for the homeowner

I let my cousin try the Discovery 1100 and I used my Pioneer 505 in his yard, the house he lives in belonged to our grandfather before he passed away. My cousin found a few things here and there but had a hard time getting used to the idea that he needed to keep it moving to detect the finds and pinpoint them. I went back over a couple spots that he had started to dig but I never saw him pull anything out of. In one spot, he had just missed the target by a couple inches. I dug 13 wheats from that hole.

My cousin wasn't feeling very well so we cut the hunt off after only about 45 minutes. I only covered a fraction of the yard, so I'm sure there is plenty more to be found. I may give him a call and see how he is feeling this weekend. Our grandfather was the type that didn't trust banks and there is always the possibility that there could be a cache of cash out there waiting to be discovered.

Getting a working metal detector for $30 is pretty cool. I just bought a Junior Scientist model on ebay for €12 (I was the only bidder), to put away for my little guy until h's old enough to use it.

Of course all the Radio Shack detectors are made by Bounty Hunter, owned by Texas....something or other. They bought out Fisher not long a go and I expect to see some newer and better equipment from them in the near future. They just recently came out with the Tecnetics T-2, a top of the line machine. I have always maintained they are underrated. I recently bought a Radio Shack 3300 just to keep in my SUV so I could do some random coin shooting when an opportunity presented itself. If it is stolen then I'm not out much and they make fine little coin shooters. Nice finds! Excellent! Monty
