Here is the Large cent and the 3 cent I found last week!!!! This was a once in a million day!!!! There are many coins out there that I do not have, but as far as being hard to detect, this one is the king of that hill. I've gone back to that site, with no more luck. It is just woods, briars, etc. I'll keep going there, but it is soon to be developed. This is ont time that this may work in my favor. Being there when they clear the trees is the time to be there. Once that is done, I hope they plant grass under the power lines, which will open another 5 acres of prime area!!

Note to newbies, I found this site by reading a diary in the local library, and using the description to find geographiclly where this might be. I then used courthouse records to determine if it was owned by the farmer mention in 1850. Everything panned out. I only have three coins from this site, but the newist is the three cent piece. I researched many sites withing a 50-100 mile radius, this one is less than a 1/2 mile from me. Sometimes you need to look in you back yard.

Question for all, this 3 cent piece is quite different from any other US coin. What does the symbolism mean? I mean, there is a Star of David, and a Cresent with designs, and a shield. I would be interested in a disussion on what that means, and how this came to be coined at the time.

Chuck

If that sweet three-center is going to be your newest, just think what you'll be finding next!

Nice coins and good research. It pays off to spend the time looking for those historic spots. I can't really comment too much about the symbolism on the 3 cent piece but I've always figured that the crescent is actually a "C", as in III Cents.

You did real "gud"....I get excited when I find a wheat....I would have a heart attack if I found that one. HH and GL on the rest of the property.

A trime and a Large Cent, my dream hunt!

WTG!

Nice finds....the trime is still on my "list of coins". Tiny coin and could very easily be missed. How deep was it?

All three coins, the large cent, trime?, and the spanish realle were not deep, around 3 inches. Both the realle and the trime read silver, but weak. I would guess that any deeper and I would have missed them. This ground has been dry, we are in a drought. But when it is wet, the folliage is denser. I was hunting this in shorts and my legs are ripped up. It is the price you pay for this site. I do not have pics of the realle, it does not have much definition, a drilled hole, and you can see the ribbon off the back of the neck. No other markings are visible.

Nice job, Chuck, at doing the research for that spot. I'd say it was definitely worth it!!

That 3-center looks great!! I suspect that if you were using your Exp. II, you would have been able to detect those coins much deeper. I pulled a silver dime at 9" last week with my SE, but that was in moist ground.

Congrats again,
CAPTN SE

Great coin! I was fortunate enough to find this beat up one about a month ago. It's just a one pass of the coil signal, and then it's gone. Tiny coin, the smallest ever made in the U.S. I thought this was hammered coin when I found it...congrats, yours is in fantastic shape.

Good finds. Coppa is always nice. I'm still looking for my first three center.

Congrats, Mojo. 8)

Both coins would make for a satisfying hunt. I would be a happy camper diggin' those in a day. :)

FYI, I if you look closely, the first 5 pointed star was the Barber Quarter & Half. Prior to that all stars were 6 pointed. I wonder why the change was made?

Congrats on being successful with your research, makes the finds sweeter. What beautiful silver 3 cent piece.

Don't see many of them Mojo....Might as well hang the ole' coil up now ;) Sweet dig's....It will probably take a while for me to hit those both.....even seperatley.Nice find's,thank's for sharing and HH!!
