Went out for an hour today, I found 3 Wheaties, a modern penny, and a 1965 Quarter, I almost got excited. :P I know there is silver out there somewhere!

I just thought to look at Philly's Mintages

1963: 74,316,000 looks about average

1964: 560,390,585 looks above normal

however

1965: 1,819,717,540

obvious they increased production due to silver being Pulled
by collectors and hoarders,
& perhaps to thin it out in circulation.

nice finds, that 65 looks as if it was in the ground a while

Great digs! Keep at 'er, you'll sniff out those silvers. Good job on the pics too. Wish I could get mine that crisp!

I nominate the '65 as the WORST coin to find.

With that hex cut on the tip (to promote mushrooming) and the length of the grooves from the lands, I suspect it is a bigger caliber. .22's are little bitty things (after you have gone through all the time and trouble to find them!).

Yep new camera time, that 22 looks bigger than real life 8-)

All the "soil" near my house is pure thick clay. I think it does something to the coins color. I'm not sure how I should be cleaning them, usually I just scrub with a toothbrush.
I tried cleaning them with Brasso and Rem-Oil this time, it wasn't really worth it.

Do you have any tips?

not really I usually just use dish soap, water, and a cloth for everything but
real old silver

It is a .22 bullet. Sorry for the close up without a reference object, but it was super small, I wouldn't have found it without my new Pro-Pointer.
