I was blazing along at a phenomenal rate of one coin per minute. Managed 30 coins (2 wheats) in first 30 minutes of my hunt then a big WHAMMY struck my 6" White's Blue Max coil (pics included). Some of you will note that this is the second occurrence this year.

The big whammy came in the form of a protruding root out of the ground at the base of a large tree which unexplicably moved itself into the path of my coil swing!

Go figure! ???

I bet no one has found a carousel token like the one picture displays!

Appears that I will use my stock coil for awhile.... :(

Man you must really swing your coil HARD!. Sorry about your luck, maybe you could slow your swing down just a little bit. LOL

Nice token!

sorry about your coil :'( but now i don't have to take apart the one i have to see how it works ::)

Oops. :P Super glue? ???

Nice token, though! :)

Wow! What's up with that? I beat the living daylights out of my Whites coils back in the old days, and I owned no fewer than 7 of them. Never cracked one open like that! I only had one that developed a small split on the joint, after having it for a few days. They replaced that coil quicker than crap through a tin horn and I never had another problem. Is it under warranty?

Nice token!..............Good luck......HH

holey moley you must break legs in comp hunts--how hard you swinging that puppy?

Bummer luck dude, I hate those agresive tree roots that just love to spoil our fun. Hope you can get er replaced soon. Looks like she may be to the point of being unrepairable? Best of luck to you. Reading the title of this thread, I was hoping the "Wham" was a big ole gold ring or something :(

Smiles!

Nice finds. Too bad about the coil.

Coils are electronis too ---

I think we all should realize coils are fragile, containing electronics and treat them softly. You really should take an axe to that root. :)

Nice token. Bad, bad tree. I can rmember tokens something like the one you found when I was just a kid and my folks would take us to the Old Pike there in Long Beach, CA. Thanks for showing us what the inside of a coil looks like. Hope you get a new one soon.

Hey,

I think you should warn everyone that hunts with you from now on, "back away from the swing' lol, kidding, although i think killing the root might take out some of your anger, and who knows, there might be a diamond ring underneath it.......probably not, but it's always nice to have hope right? LOL
Keep up the...swinging...work

Use clear epoxy- that would be rather neat looking ---

Thanks for the tip!

If you look at the picture of the broken cover, you'll see that the fracture earlier in the year held up on the second break. I have superglue readily available to me. If the coil breaks for the third time, I'll consider using something else...

My detector has seen better days. The rechargable batteries no longer hold a charge, the backlight no longer works as well as the internal speakers. I have to use headphones! It's a White's Eagle Spectrum. I may be looking to purchase a new detector soon. I bought this one in 1992. It has served me well but I am in the market for newer electronics.

Thanks for the reply.

One must take out liability insurance to detect with me. I may consider a waiver for you but you must maintain a clearance of 15 feet! Hahah! Most of my detector buddies have been terribly disfigured or permanently maimed by the loose objects (FOD) flying off my machine!

When the people in the local park see me coming, everyone flees in terror!

Too bad your coil was ruined. Must be a heck of a swing.

I get my golf swing mixed up with my detector swing once in awhile....I keep forgetting that the two cannot be inter-mixed!

Thanks for responding!

Hey Mike,

I think someone is telling you that it's time for a new detector.....a minelab maybe??? ;D ;D
I'm sure you've paid for that machine many times over by now....time to join the "darkside", and start taking some of those old coins away from me here in LB. :D

Hmmmm...

Your hypothesis is correct.

I've been in need of a suitable replacement for my White's ever since the individual components began failing. First it was was the rechargeable battery pack, next it was a screw here and there, then the lightbulb in the backlight, next the internal speakers and lastly the coil (again). It has served it purpose over and over but I will have to consider my next purchase in the near future.

Any forumites willing to contribute to the M-Squared's "Retire my Detector" fund? I'd have to raise over $1,300 for a new Minelab Explorer.
My finds aren't cutting it. Total 2007 finds might amount to $150-$200 towards the purchase. (Hehehe!)

Cap'n .. How much do you charge for a Hands-On tutorial and demo of the Minelab Explorer?
