The light source is still under debate. Some say it’s emitting light, some say it’s reflecting it. That scientist has made a lot of claims about alien tech before. I don’t recall seeing any of them validated yet.

The thing that always bugged me about the whole alien conspiracy thing is — why? If you’re a society so advanced that you can visit other planets or other dimensions and investigate the life there, why bother with the theatrics? Do we make sure that we are invisible and not memorable if we go to the zoo, or go fishing, or whatever? Seems like advanced alien societies would see us in much the same light.

You have a good valid point... but there could be something much simpler at play...
IF there is an advanced traveling alien life...
I don't think the non-action would qualify as theatrics... i think mostly it would be un-interest... or some inability.
Do you go inspect the anthill way out in the woods ?...
You know its there...You know what it is... but why seek it.
Would the anthill have anything beneficial to you for the efforts ?

Heck... besides... we have advanced with telescopes to see the far reaches of space.
They may have advanced the same to see inside your living room. heh

The glow ahead of Comet 3I/ATLAS is not unusual. It’s part of the coma and, in this case, “ahead” means its sun-facing side. That’s normal for comets as they approach our sun and is due to warming creating sublimation of ice and UV-splitting of water to create hydrogen atoms, together with ejection of other gases and dust debris from the surface.

What is unusual about 3I/ATLAS is the absence of a tail, or rather that the tail is extremely weak. Typically, comets also release a distinct tail of gas and dust and a second tail of ions “behind” them, ie on the night-facing side (although that side does get at least some sunlight). Apart from the likelihood that the tail of 3I/ATLAS is indistinct to us because of its distance from Earth, at 240 million miles, there are two possible explanations.

One is that the comet's nucleus is spinning with a pole pointing at the Sun, so the night side is not getting any light. The other is that its surface has been dramatically weathered. Since 3I/ATLAS is from outside our solar system, it’s likely to be significantly older than the younger non-interstellar comets from the Kuiper Belt and the Oort Cloud that we see more frequently.

Several billion years of bombardment with cosmic rays may well have stripped 3I/ATLAS of surface hydrogen, negating its ability to create the long tail behind it that we usually associate with comets.

There is no reason to think that 3I/ATLAS is generating its own light.

Avi Loeb’s interpretation of the Hubble Space Telescope profile data is both at odds with more reasoned scientific interpretations, as well as plain wrong. His reasoning is based on an erroneous interpretation of a plot of the surface brightness with distance from the nucleus. When surface brightness is plotted as a more informative function of logarithmic distance (published log-log data which he selectively chose to ignore), there is nothing anomalous which needs his radical speculation.

Additionally, he suggests that the low opacity of the dust means the light originates mostly from the surface of 3I/ATLAS and not as reflections from the dust surrounding it. This is also wrong. The fact that the coma is optically thin does not mean that the nucleus dominates the light. The dust has a very high surface-area-to-volume ratio, such that even a tiny amount of it can reflect far more sunlight than a massive solid object could produce. It’s perfectly consistent for the coma to be optically thin while still overwhelmingly dominating the observed brightness.

Maybe it is glowing from a nuclear reaction, and maybe it is a natural object not manufactured? Just because we have never seen something like this before, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Just possibly consider that mankind, in all his arrogance and conceit doesn't know as much as we think we do. What man knows about time, space, matter and physics is likely a drop in the bucket as to what exist in the universe.

As well as luminaries with valid ideas that were ahead of their time, history is littered with fraudulent and charlatan 'scientists' trading on gullibility, public ignorance or lack of contradictory evidence to peddle ridiculous claims: Miasma, Phlogiston, canals on Mars, eels developing from horsehair in ponds or whatever. They still do, but we live in different times, where claims are subject to a much higher level of scrutiny against a much larger volume of available evidence.

Open-mindedness is a virtue, but there's no virtue in inventing outlandish claims with misrepresentation of data to support them and ignoring the evidence that they have satisfactory explanations without invoking alien technology as a solution.

Nevertheless, if people want to believe, they will. That's why we still have flat-earthers, advocates for the moon-landings being filmed in the Arizona desert, and holocaust-deniers, among other things.

For those that deny man has ever been to the moon, recent events are only reinforcing that belief. Afterall, how could we put a man on the moon and bring him back in 1969 but in 2025 with the knowledge gained since then and the improvement in available technology why is this proving to be such a daunting task for NASA? Shouldn't doing what was already accomplished be easy to do the same thing again but with better tools? Was it done in 1969?

Of course it's not impossible. But the point is (or rather points are):

- Other than sheer speculation, the hypothesis proposed by Loeb is based on a flawed interpretation of the Hubble data (an interpretation that supports his own agenda).

- Other planetary scientists have pointed this out (and Loeb must have read their published papers since he selectively quotes from their authors), but he has ignored the contrary evidence within those papers.

No reason to think that 3I/ATLAS is large or self-luminous

Avi Loeb continues to post incorrect reasoning about 3I/ATLAS in support of his hype that it could be an alien spacecraft. In a recent analysis he takes a look at the Hubble Space Telescope profile of 3I/ATLAS and concludes that it must be self luminous. His reasoning is that he says this plot...

- The alternative hypothesis that the object is nothing other than a non-periodic comet is supported by the Hubble data, with absolutely no need to invoke alien technology as an explanation.

- Loeb has a history of making outlandish claims, including the "alien technology spherules recovered from the ocean floor" claim which has since been conclusively demonstrated to be bunkum (see my earlier link).

- The media (plus YouTurders and ThickTokkers) gobbled up what Loeb said, portrayed it as rather more than an unproven hypothesis, and further embellished it with things he didn't actually say.

So many people today seem to be living in a world of delusion. Video games,
TV shows, movies...people don't understand that it's just all made up. Then
some guy comes along with a PhD. and postulates something completely without
merit...and then sits back and laughs while the world tries to prove him right.

Google says: "The phrase "barely a shred of logic" is an idiom used to describe something
completely irrational or nonsensical. It emphasizes that there isn't even the smallest, most
insignificant piece of reason or sound judgment in a particular argument, action, or situation."

Now, if this comet starts slowing down and making radical course changes, then maybe
there is something to talk about. Otherwise, it's just a pile of space rocks and ice that has
been traveling for a very, very long time.
