Interesting find Greylock!

Good 1. Too bad it's probably too far gone to ID. Don will still want to know what county it was found in, so wait for his reply. Congrats..................Hogge

Still a nice find!

Thanks. It's my third coin from the 1700s from the cellar hole in my back yard that's never been touched.

Sweet find! You are lucky to have such a site in your own back yard to hunt!

Sorry for my ignorance, but can someone please enlighten me as to what a NJ copper is?
Thanks,
Butcher

It appears to be your second 1787 Maris 48-g variety. I see nothing to say otherwise against that. I will put down the same county as your previous two NJ finds. Thanks for reporting it.

Don

Many northeastern states produced their own copper coins in the mid to late 1780's. Prior to this, coinage in the U.S.( and prior to it being the U.S). was foreign. 1793 was the year the U.S. started minting it's own coinage. Great find there Greylock.:icon_thumleft: I would love to find a virgin colonial site in my backyard.:laughing7: Keep hitting it hard.

Don beat me to it.....:notworthy:

Thanks Evolution. Much appreciated.

I guess I should have taken you up on your offer to hunt it with you. I'll call ya this week if the invite is still open.:BangHead::laughing7:

Niiiiiiiice. Congrats!

Thanks for the comments and Don for the ID.
