Coil (5.3) not reading or when it does does not give out an accurate reading. ??? Tried again today after a bad day yesterday, today even worse 4 coins and when eyeballing a quarter gave a penny reading then nothing at all. Tested, rebooted, and checked connections....worked then did not work...completely erratic! :( Coil is only 6 months old with 3 months of use! >:(

Back to stock coil in morning....not going to help that road to 10,000 :-\

Never had a coil problem with my Explorer! ;D

Actually man, sorry to hear about your luck. Busted coils suck pretty bad. Never had one, but had a friend that had a Whites that had a coil malfunction about 4 miles from the cars and 20 miles from home. >: :'(

Just because its new doesn't mean its good, I bought my second Explorer in 2001 complete with bad coil. Bad thing is you have to ship it in and use the stock coil until it arrives. Sorry to hear about it happeninmg tho!!

Well it is very strange when I air test it it works then I turn it off and it does not work when i turn it on again very strange! Also found out coil only had a 3 month warranty. Erratic to say the least! Will test again in morning but with the stock coil in back also. Repair center said they do not repair erratic coils! :(

I wouldn't assume it is a bad coil. I had trouble with my DFX about a week ago. Screen would fade in and out. Turned out to be a small piece of dirt/crap in the coil connector.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Had the same thing happen to me. (Garrett Master Hunter CX)
No matter what it was it read as a penny then didn't read at all. 2 days straight.
I cleaned the coil, coil connector, and battery compartment. Haven't had a problem since. Just thought I'd share what helped me.
Hope you get back in the game soon!

Ok seeing you mentioned it Daryl are we talking about the connection that unscrews or the connection that goes into the detector. I tried putting some air in to cleanout earlier. Seems to be working again but worried it will just start doing the same thing again will have to test again. Thought I had it working again earlier then unplugged and plugged in again and it did not work again! ??? Hoping now it is ok...but something seems wrong...

Best of Luck to you Gregg,That's gotta be a kick in the Nard's.....Hope the back-up standard will do for now....Aint like you!!

Too bad about your coil. I hope you get 300 clad tomorrow plus some silver.

Thanks everyone for the advice and hopefully detector will be fine. Odd the small coil was hitting at 6.5 the other day and then....not even picking up surface or air tested coins...

Hate to hear about the coil problems you're having. I hope the others advice cures the problem. Today my all metal pin point seemed to quit working. It would go silent when I pulled the trigger. My pin pointer worked, but my coil was silent. All of a sudden it started working just fine again. I hope it's not a developing problem. Good luck to ya!

If it works and then you unplug it and plug it back in and it doesn't work, it sounds like a few piece of crud in the connector somewhere. You move it and all the pins make connection and it works fine. You unplug it, move the crud some, plug it back it but some of the crud now is in the way again and one (or more) of the plugs doesn't make connection and you're back to being "busted" again.

Try a can of either contact cleaner or just a can of compressed air to keep the connector clean.

Ok will try cleaning after short hunt this morning with stock coil thanks.

That is odd, DFX-Gregg! Use the stock....you will punch super deep....maybe more than a Minelab. hehehe ;) :D

I know a dude that has an XS and the thing, seriously, doesn't appeal to me. The detector seems to give off alien noises. White's FOREVER! hehehe
