4 coin day ended by coil problems...

Coil (5.3) not reading or when it does does not give out an accurate reading. Tried again today after a bad day yesterday, today even worse 4 coins and when eyeballing a quarter gave a penny reading then nothing at all. Tested, rebooted, and checked connections....worked then did not work...completely erratic! Coil is only 6 months old with 3 months of use!

Back to stock coil in morning....not going to help that road to 10,000

I know a dude that has an XS and the thing, seriously, doesn't appeal to me. The detector seems to give off alien noises. White's FOREVER! hehehe

Acutally, I just like giving Greg a hard time about his DFX vs. Explorer thing.

The Explorer doesn't make alien noises... My hunting partner, who is a lifetime Fisher user, says it "sings" to me!

If it works and then you unplug it and plug it back in and it doesn't work, it sounds like a few piece of crud in the connector somewhere. You move it and all the pins make connection and it works fine. You unplug it, move the crud some, plug it back it but some of the crud now is in the way again and one (or more) of the plugs doesn't make connection and you're back to being "busted" again.

Try a can of either contact cleaner or just a can of compressed air to keep the connector clean.

Daryl a big thank you to you and to House one of you got it right I believe! Today went out after cleaning and checking alll contacts including battery , coil connections pins and blew out with air. Also noticed a small piece of what appeared to be clay from the forest preserve stuck to the coil!

Well it seems to be working again will post hunting results in a little while...usual clad..but glad its working again.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Had the same thing happen to me. (Garrett Master Hunter CX)
No matter what it was it read as a penny then didn't read at all. 2 days straight.
I cleaned the coil, coil connector, and battery compartment. Haven't had a problem since. Just thought I'd share what helped me.
Hope you get back in the game soon!

It was either you or Daryl but it seems to be working right again thanks! Swung each coil stock/5.3 for an hour and a half each without problem! Usual clad thanks again.
