Late this morning, I drove over to a park to hunt in a light drizzle. I'm always on the lookout for drizzly days during our hot months; usually we get either torrid sun, or torrential rain. I much prefer a drizzle to either of those.
I dug up a small cross, made of wood, covered with tin, stamped "Jerusalem." A good sign. Then I pulled up a string with grommets on it. It had been a draw-string cloth bag and the bag had rotted away. I pull a few more tabs, and then came across a spectacular signal - a clean, tight, very loud 51 on my eagle spectrum, as pure and bright a signal as I'd ever seen. 51 on the eagle is in screwcap range. All the gold I'd dug up to this point had vdi's below 40.
I can't say I was surprised, but I took it as a valuable lesson when a large, high quality gold wedding band emerged from the ground. This was the first gold ring I'd dug with a vdi above 40.
14k, 5.71dwt. Today, the melt value was $218. It's made by Tessler and Weiss; an American jewelry company since 1936. I liked the way the inside of the band is tapered for comfort.
This was my 4th. gold ring in the last 7 days, plus one gold crucifix. I think i'm on a roll. My daddy always used to say "Son, never quit when the dice are hot."
