Out for a hunt again today.....broke my SandShark last time out .... so took my F75 for a run.

Noisy as hell....but wasn,t too bad of a day althoughh little chilly...was ok til got my gloves damp.

Found the anchor button and pipe shortly after arriving on the site.... right where we had already gone over a few times.. .guessing the noisy F75 s are hiding some targets on us .

Was ready to call it quits for the day...on the way back came across the lock...was a solid big hit and a pleasant surprise....beautiful old lock...but the back is missing ..blaaaaa....looked around but couldn,t find it....maybe next time.

Then came across the small buttom just before exiting the site....not sure what it says on the front of it.

Well worth going out in the cold i think and was fun.

Well it is nice just to know that much.....as have nothing to offer for a ID.

If you don,t know for sure then pretty good chance no one does either.,... but appreciate the effort.

That is the best picture for ID.... anything more zoomed in just distorts it .

Yeah it's more the condition than the pic so i'm not sure even seeing it in person would help.

You are killing it, that is some site you are working can't wait to see what else you find

Way to go but way to cold for me. Ground here is way to frozen and ice cold. Just can't wait till spring

sometimes you can hold a flashlight at an angle across the face of the button to reveal some details that are otherwise hard to see. You might give it a shot.

Be sure to throw that pipe in the trash. I dug one a short while back and it was in my "finds bucket" in the back of my truck. Well, you know it had to happen, I got pulled over for a tail-light being out. The police officer looked in my finds bucket and he saw the pipe that I just found. He was going to write me a citation for possession of paraphernalia. Luckily I was pulled over by a reasonable cop and he understood that I just gug it up. Since it had dirt in it and my metal detector was in the back as well, he cut me a break. He took it and he said that he would destroy it. Cool find but still illegal if it has resin in it. (ever been used). Not that I would EVER have expereince with that sort of thing in my youth!!!!:laughing7:

WOW.. that would suck bad---lol.

I made it home with it....didn,t think about that happening.. would be funny .. but not if the cop didn,t think it was funny.

around here, pipes themselves are not illegal, "smoke" shops sell them all over the place
now if there's residue in them, now you got a problem, but seeing that one came from the shore, I doubt there would even be any scrapings left due to the sand blasting it probably took from the tides etc
I would think that most police got more on their plates than to deal with the paperwork involving such a find, unless you used it lol

Yes..think would just be a ticket on the spot .. like a speeding ticket... not like it used to be.

Maybe I should fill it up fo me next detecting trip.....imagine what I prolly find... or just trip over the rocks and break my detector. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most of his coppers do look pretty smoked!

Anyone know how old the lock would be ?

Your lock reminds me of a lock off a railroad switch, the hole at the bottom would have had a chain on it attached to the switch. Having said that, I would think it dates from the 1860s to about WW l, just my guess

Because of the similar brass construction, I'd hazard a guess and say they are of similar age
