6" Classifiers - finally found some good ones

Been searching high and low for affordable, 6" round classifiers
in the smaller mesh sizes. Rarely will I have more than a few
cups of concentrates to run through, and the full sized classifiers
(that fit on a 5 gal. bucket) are just too cumbersome for breaking
down small amounts of material into #30 to #100 mesh sizes.

I'd seen the high quality ones built to meet the US Standard, but they
run anywhere from $50-$65 apiece..way to high for my budget. We
don't need that level of quality, but rather a robust, well-made product
that can take the use we put them through.

Here's what I found:

Bought 1 ea. of these in #30 and #60 mesh sizes, and am very pleased
with the quality and durability. Unfortunately, the seller only has them to
#60 mesh at this time, but I've requested that he offer some in #80 and
#100 mesh also.

Disclaimer: Other than being a customer, I don't know this seller nor do I
have any interest in his business. Just wanted to share what I felt was a
quality product at a fair price. Would rather buy American made, but maybe
we can get a US manufacturer to build something along the same lines and
price.

a really long time ago i went to a salvage yard for something (angel alum nuts bolts don't remember) and was surprised by the unexpected discovery of hardware clothe (stainless steel tooboot) all size's, so i bought pounds, did not know what to do with them at the time ( just cut a small square section for screening out my cons) for the most part just hung around
and we all have those moments, one of the things i did with the hardware clothe, i used a coffee can and would shove the sreen in the opening and mold it, much like a hand seive for schetti, now i had diff size's
but my best trick was cutting a bucket long way in half ( pictures will be attached later, gotta find ) placing the screen inside this half bucket on the edge, the lip of the bucket i cut slots so it would rest on top of a whole bucket but with a slope (a lot like a dry washer) it was great for doing dry work Mossing, crevicing,or just prospecting beachs, best part was it fit right inside a whole bucket with all the stuff needed to prospect and have tied to my backpack

I had a little 3 1/2 or 4" wide one but my landscaper tossed it. I don't even see it on eBay anymore. I sure hope they didn't stop making them...

here is the half bucket idea, i use this packing in areas to sample, no shake rattle and roll, shovel and watch it slide with a little hand action too

That's a cool tool. Just one thing though, I would want it to lock over the front somehow, to prevent it from falling off the back side. Maybe I'm just too roudy with my shovel.

Nice Design, how did you make it? Like the idea, it's similar to the design from Angus Mackirk with their grizzly bucket.

thanks, i will post more pics of the above photo, this has a #4 SS screen
I built the frame a little shy of the inside dims of the bucket, i then bent the wire over the frame and attached wire to the side of frame so this will allow it fit inside the 1/2 bucket, then i cut about 4 inchs from the top portion of the half bucket so it for the most part sit in the other bucket keeps from sliding out
I am sure once you have the SS wire bent you acan then attach the wire to the bucket with out the frame, i know weight was always a factor when i was packing a long distance n camping for a few days,

hope this helps, i removed the bottom elbows & short PVC so that it fit on the top of the bucket and locks in place

Thanks a lot Dizzy for the lead to these. They now have the set from #10 to #60. I just got one in and they are really ideal for working small batches of material for a miller table or Blue Bowl. Very good quality. I am going to pick up 3 or 4 more.

You might also want to check a high end plant nursery for soil classifiers. It might be in their bonsai section. Yep theyve got, I havent checked the prices though.

I dont know if my reply went through? Check A&B Prospecting in AZ they have #4-50 mini classifiers $ 12.95 each I bought a couple just to have.
