Great Cache!.....I remember my first year of detecting, I found a spill of 12-15 of those " Shell" Presidentail tokens in one hole. i thought at first they were Silver!....but then reality set in....Killer Haul!

[cjon455]

Thats really neat! Some kid dropped their collection years ago, super cool!

I've seen a few of those turn up over my hunting career but never 64 at the same time. That's awesome. Did you find the whole set?

[treblehunter]

I really like that, must of been really exciting digging that!

[AQUA]

Sweet,,,that musta been a heart stopper for a minute !!!

Do they have value ?

What was there purpose ?

[blugotti1]

not sure of the value. yeah, at first I thought silver spill!! but I enjoyed it still the same! I think you turned them it to get gas at a shell gas station. I can't find a list of them to see if I got all or most of this type. thanks guys!! David

Gotta Like It Blugotti ! Any hoard is nice to find ! Must have been a fun Hunt ! MR

[jewelerguy]

wow that's insane. wonder if some kid buried them on purpose, or just lost them?

I believe you got a token for $2 of Shell gas you bought. There were three distinct runs of most these so a complete set probably comprises around 100 pieces. They were aluminum and you could somehow trade in a certain one or group to get a bronze set from what I know of them. There were cards that were issued to hold the sets and widely available but these aren't seen in mint/very good condition very often. Even used one's in good shape are hard to find.

Looks like you have most of them so would be a cool project to try to complete the set. Congrats on the cool find!

Cool hoard for sure, guess the heart rate popped up a few beats when they first appeared in the dirt.

Before I read the comments I was trying to remember where those were from. I remember having the John Paul Jones and the Jefferson ones when I was a kid.they were from shell

[Coldshuz]

Heart exciter for sure.

They don't seem to have a lot of value. Here's link to an eBay search listing.

Wow that is one heck of a catch!! How long do you think they have been there?

[blugotti1]

Wow that is one heck of a catch!! How long do you think they have been there?

possibly a good while..because some of them had rust on them. since aluminum doesn't rust, I think they may have been in a tin can that rusted away.
