So I'm walking on my normal exercise route here on a1a near the beach and normally I'm
looking at the sky or the people. But since I found this site about a month ago and spending about 3 hours a day looking at posts on here new and old I have started looking down and thats what I was doing today and I spot what looks like money about 20 feet away. So I'm thinking maybe some if those bills like the churches give away so I pick it up it had a rubber band around it and I realize that its real money. So I counted it and it ends up being 673$. BOY WAS I EXCITED. I must have jumped 3 feet in the air lol. So after the excitement wore off I start thinking about this site again and I figure maybe I can find the owner. But here are my problems
1 the parking lot I was walking threw was a closed buisness

2 how do I identfy the owner of money... lol
Now the one thing I do remeber about this parking lot is that there was a lot of cop cars there a few nights ago and they were arresting a few unsavory looking caracters so maybe one of the threw it down or something.

So I would be open to any suggestions

But I figure worse comes to worse I may finally have enuff money to buy a metal detector and to make my wife stop thinking I am crazy for spending so much time on the site

I'm gonna just keep it for a week or so and keep an eye out in craigs list and lost and found then go from there

I'm really surprised at the number of people here who would make no effort to find the owner. Its seems really easy to say it was drug money and they deserved losing it. Even with no proof. Its just as possible it fell out of a disabled veterans pocket and it was the rest of his disability check for the month. Make what ever effort you can sleep with.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda...If that was some disabled vets money they would have held onto it a lot tighter. Except on very rare occasions nobody that depends on that amount of money loses that amount of money. I guarantee you if I had $673 I would know exactly where it was at all times.

And how do you find the owner of money found on the side of the road with no id with it. :icon_scratch:...... The only thing you can do is check the classifieds to see if someone ran an ad, or place an ad in craigslist which is free or in local newspaper.....Finder has already said he will check the local ads......

I worked at a Hilton many years ago and found a BIG gold nugget bracelet ,turned it into security and I was sopposed to get it in 90 days if unclaimed. Yea the thing disappeared and there was no record of it..

Buy yourself a detector asap!!! :headbang:

few if any normal folks carry large sums of money with a rubber band around it * -- that is a typical drug dealer type of way to carry cash however *--they want to do "fast hand offs " of their drugs and need to have easy and rapid access to change money as well as no ID with the cash so if the police roll up on their drug deal they can "chuck" the drugs and money down ( thus having no evidence upon them personally)--they go

who me --dats not mine, officer , I was just walking along by here and dat man in da car dere stopped and axed me fer help wit directions so I come over to help him --drugs what drugs ?, money what money? --some one esle musta dropped dat dere earlier--oh my.

A lot going on here. If you want to keep it delete this post and don,t talk about finding it. Why, The unsavory drug guy did not drop it accidentally, he is planning on returning or have someone else get it. Do you want him looking for you? I would try to keep it, but not spend for a while you might need to return it quickly. :o

Just my 2.

Lower your head, close your eyes and repeat after me..."Than you". Go get that detector...it was meant to be. HH TomB

keep the money and dont worry about it !!
If the owner was worried about it, they wouldve backtracked
and tried finding it, right ?
Buy you a new machine and go find some gold !!

If it was someone really looking for the money they would put it in the local papers( classifieds) and soon too! If you do not see it their, then keep the money. Lets say you found a 20 spot on the ground would you be looking for the owner? How about those coins you find while metal detecting? When you turn it over to us(the police), it goes into the general fund and you will never see it again. Period! So keep it, you found it and no one can take that away from you. I suppose if it were a suit case full of Hundo's then you may want to turn it in( No Country for Old Men)....Finders Keeper Losers Weepers as they say. Have fun with it and get that detector okay! Your friendly neighborhood fuzz! jgas

You are a fool to even mention this, what your holding is evidence for the cops, which you can be arrested for confiscating evidence. Also if 'anyone' (That includes police officers living by you) of them has friends that read most likely they will come to this site by some one spreading the fact that you found a roll of cash. No one that is correct carries a roll. Delete delete delete I don't carry rolls I have a wallet

What evidence, there is no proof or even a hint that it is part of a crime, there is no known crime, there is only speculation....He could say he found a $100,000 wouldn't matter, there is no proof he found anything at all...... Can you be arrested for having a picture of pot on you, NO.... He can't be arrested for anything, there is no proof of anything..... Hell I could say I buried Jimmy Hoffa, don't mean squat......

The man found money on the street rolled up in a rubberband with no way to identify who it belongs to......Wait a week, if there are no ads posted in the newspaper or on Craigslist, then do with it as you please......

Good for you, hopefully these shaddy characters are not looking here to! Great pic of you!!!!! HAHA! :icon_thumleft:

That just happens to be just about the price of a brand new Garrett At Pro...........just say'in.

Lots of advice given already.

673 huh ??? Musta been a starting out crack dealer....If a "good" guy/gal had lost that money, they would have a all points bulletin out on craigslist\ newspaper immediately..... couple days & spend away ...

Buy the detector.
That $$ probably has cocaine all over it. I'd get rid of it quick
before you get busted too!

Wow, Congrats on the find!... Sound like you don't even need a detector, you have one built in.

A lot of great advice!
No wallet, ID, in a parking lot of a closed business... just wrapped in a rubber band.
Yeah, you could check the papers, craigslist, etc.
question is... can your conscious let you keep it?

Another thought?
If you were using metal detector and found a prize like a ring with no engraving, would you keep it or try to find its owner?

Mine says....
Treat this like a winning lottery ticket. Don't tell anyone, anything because the shady possibilities of the drug connection. Start using another route for your exercises too.
Delete this post, your profile pic, take your wife out to dinner and buy the MD.

This is your chance to help the economy and spend your stimulus package!

Good luck with your choice and the find!

Id totally buy ammo, parts for my car and dinner for the missus with that.
