8 Reales!!

I was in a very old part of town at a public park. There was a lot of dirt moved due to a skatepark being put in. I was able to ID some old ground due to the presence of a large tree. Found a 1916 Wheatie and then BANG. This beauty popped out. Due to the wear pattern this coin was surely worn as a necklace. May have had another charm with it due to all of the scratches. I certainly was not expecting to find anything this big or old. Thanks for reading

Your coin's mintmark 'PTS' indicates it's from the Potosi Mint in what is now Bolivia.
The initials 'PJ' identify the Potosí assayers Pedro Prudencio de Esquerrenea and Juan Palomo y Sierra. They served as joint assayers, and their mark can be found on coins minted during the reign of Fernando VII, specifically between 1803 and 1824.

I've always wanted to find one. Congratulations on yours! Finally bought one just to have and hold. The historical literature I have read indicates they were in common use before the US and Canada had regular coinage. I've wondered why more are not found. Maybe they are so big and valuable that they were mostly soon found by the loser.
