A "CLEANER" Lunch

Still gridding off sections of the yard during lunch. Today I found a few tidbits, but nothing too great. If it doesn't rain on Sat. I'll be back out for my usual 6 hour hunt.
Today's finds:

*Cleaner bullet.
Can someone ID this one. Williams type 2? Type 3?

*A horseshoe shaped aluminum good luck piece with a 1957 Wheat in the center.
It reads" Keep me and never go broke - Good luck"

*1930 & 41 wheats.

*A small old button that I can't quite make out the back mark on.
Can anyone make out the words on the back?

*Asst'd relics & horse related pieces.

Any idea what the large brass loop piece with threaded end is?

Thanks for looking,
MM

Doug, Can you make out anything on the reverse of the good luck charm? I have one just like it..the reverse says where it is from..in my case, an old amusement park that's no longer operating.

Too bad that aluminum doesn't hold up really well..mine is pock-marked as well.

Nat
Natman beat me to it: are there any identifying marks on the other side? My dad had one from a gas station, and I think I've seen them from a bank. Nice finds!

Man, you guys are good. :D I didn't even notice there was something on the other side. It's pretty corroded though.
First word ends with a "w"
Second word starts with an "R", and ends with a "wn's"
Third word starts with "Hors" (I think it may be "Horseshoe")
Forth word is "Club"

Under the penny there are more letters but hard to read. I see "Nev", so this may be a good luck charm from the Horseshoe Club in Vegas or Reno perhaps?
Any guesses?
Here's some corroded photos. :'(

Re: A "CLEANER" Lunch

Great finds MM! The good luck thing may be a token, I just saw a token with an IH mounted in it like your Wheat cent is. Mr Antietam Civilman seems to have IDed the reign guide, I thought it was also a guide from a wagon or maybe a coach. HH, Mike

Re: A "CLEANER" Lunch

I agree with everyone else, it looks a lot like an ore lock? (maybe) I like the cleaner.

Re: A "CLEANER" Lunch

Thanks for sharing your pics Doug.

Hope Saturday goes well for you.

Re: A "CLEANER" Lunch

Is there anything on that heart-shaped piece? It might be a martingale.

Re: A "CLEANER" Lunch

Congrats on all the finds but I love that penny!

Re: A "CLEANER" Lunch

an older guy in town here carries a silver dollar with him where ever he goes, when asked why he carries it he said that when he was a younger you could be arrested as a vagrant if you had no money. to bad he lost his token :)

mikey

ps: could it be the top hook to an old lantern?

Mikey,
Funny story. :D
I'm still pretty sure the ring with threads is horse/carriage related. Some think it's a oar lock, but those don't have threads. Also oar locks wouldn't have the two indented points on the INNER part of the ring. They would be smooth. This piece was found next to the horse pasture too. I think the ID of a harness guide up top makes more sense to me. I would love to find a picture of one.

Here is a great informative good luck token web site sent to me by TN member B|lker. Very interesting.
Thanks Bill

Re: A "CLEANER" Lunch

I have actually found several of these rings,( mostly brass),in my part of the country. If you drive around here and look at the stone pillers that mark entrances to property you may see them. Sometimes there are as many as 3, (one on top and each side). We figure they may have been used to tie horses when people visited. Obviously they could have been tapped into wooden posts also as would explain why you found one on the edge of a farmers field to tie the horse up after plowing or work when they went to eat or whatever. They are very common at these old homesteads around my area. At least thats what we think they were used for.

Hogge,
That's some great info to tie it to a horse related item. Thanks so much.

Re: A "CLEANER" Lunch

I still think a guide from a wagon or coach is most probable. If they were driven into stone, they wouldn't need to be threaded. Most of the stone pillars and hitching posts with rings here in my part of the country have iron rings. I just found two more of the things yesterday, and thought of you, Doug!

Re: A "CLEANER" Lunch

MM, post a photo of the backside of the heart and the dimensions, a Martingale from CW era usually is lead filled in the back with rust marks where the hooks were or the hooks could still be there. It looks a tad small for a regular one, I believe mine is about 3.5 inches give or take.

If a Martingale, that could be your biggest find there.
