Before heading out to the DIV hunt last Thurs I took my friend Evan to one of my pounded sites. We didn't did much in the way of quantity, but coming down the home stretch heading to the truck we got into a little mini hotspot. I hit a couple of musketballs first, then Evan comes up with this awesome early navy button which is likely late 1700s or early 1800s British. A short time before that in another part of the field I dug a large coat sized early 1800s navy with full gilt identical to 2 others I've dug in this part of the county. I also found a nice gilted flower-type button of the same period along with an 1864 IH in good shape. So all-in-all it was a successful hunt and we both came home some nice keepers.

Any day that you dig early military buttons is a good day:icon_thumright: The remaining gilt is a bonus.

That site looks far from pounded. Glad u both got in on the action. GREAT buttons and a injun to boot. CONGRATS. HH

Bill,

That is a fantastic pair of buttons that any digger would be proud to have in his collection. I was wondering, what is the brass piece in the first photo at the 7 o'clock position? I dug one of those today, and thought it might be a piece of a musket side plate.

Cheers,

Don't have a clue as to what that brass piece is BB. Maybe someone else will recognize it and chime in.

I find tons of them in the fields, never kept them, as I'm sure they are not gun related & always thought the were part of a window fitting, maybe furniture. Never researched, as they are so common here.

Super pair of Navies !! Great looking IH too :hello2:
